Motivation To Lose Weight | The Simple Way To Avoid Craving Carbs Like Crazy | Day 53 of 90 Day Challenge

craving carbsAt the end of the day do you find yourself craving carbs like crazy?

Do you find yourself standing in front of the pantry desperately searching for a Cookie Jar or a Reese’s Pieces that might be lurking in a deep, dark magical corner?

Hopefully if you heeded my advice you threw all that rubbish away. So no amount of wishing and wanting is going to make it materialize anyway.

Do you really want to know how to avoid craving carbs like crazy?

You’re going to want to slap me when I tell you, because it really is so ridiculously simple. Actually all of this is ridiculously simple if you allow yourself to believe it to be so.

The way to avoid craving carbs like crazy is …

go to bed before midnight and get up with the sun.

Que?

Let me explain. There are two hormones involved here and I call them the “Two Tony’s.” Their correct names are serotonin and melatonin.

Serotonin is your happy hormone and melatonin is your sleepy hormone and they work like a see-saw. As one goes up the other one goes down. And if you interrupt the see-saw you’re going to get grumpy and start craving carbs because you want to FEEL good again.

craving carbsIt works like this. When you wake in the morning and the sun hits your eyes, you experience a surge in your serotonin levels.

Have you ever done Yoga to a sunrise? WOW! What a rush! Every sunrise feels good, but when you see the sun rise as you go into an Upward Dog, that’s something else entirely. Almost better than … but not quite : )

Your elevated serotonin levels carry you through the day. Then gradually as the sun goes down, so too do your serotonin levels. And it’s this gradual drop in your serotonin levels that gets you craving carbs to ‘make you feel good.’

Melatonin is taking over and is trying to get you to sleep. craving carbs

The way to avoid craving carbs is to recognize melatonin’s message to send you to sleep before midnight, therefore getting you up again with a huge surge in serotonin in the morning to energize you through the day.

If you fight this natural see-saw and give in to craving carbs, and stay up after midnight you’re not allowing the natural flow of melatonin through your body. You’ll wake up feeling like you’ve had a big night on the town, need five cups of coffee to get you moving and you’ll feel like you’re a step behind all day.

So the simple thing to do to avoid craving carbs like crazy, is get to bed before midnight, get up as early as you can, get some sun on your face and skip through the day like Daisy Duke! Seriously, I told you it was simple.

And all of this is simple. It really is. Losing weight is about following nature. We’ve just got to get all this junk out of our heads. Stop counting, stop weighing, stop measuring – just get on with living naturally. All the rest will take care of itself. I promise.

Good luck on your journey.

My Motivation To Lose Weight is Back Thanks To Happy Foods | Day 51 of P90X 90 Day Challenge

Do you have any idea what Tryptophan is and what it has to do with healthy foods?

Neither did I until an article in NEXT magazine caught my attention. It was entitled “Mood Foods” and it listed a collection of healthy foods that enhance your mood.

Tryptophan (I can’t even spell it by myself without referring to the article!) is one of ten essential amino acids which are the building blocks of proteins.

This intrigued me so I took a look at the healthy foods mentioned, and what was so interesting is that they are all foods that are part of my staple diet.

The article referenced salmon, tuna, broccoli, lentils, apricots, avocado, bananas, pawpaw, raspberries, strawberries, dried fruits, brown rice, walnuts, cashews, hazelnuts, oysters, sunflower and pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate as all being healthy foods that are naturally high in tryptophan. Apparently 50g of dark chocolate is good for the soul. No arguments from me : )

But here’s the thing, do we really need to have this type of information spelled out to us? Isn’t it just common sense that good healthy nutritious foods will make us feel good?

I don’t know about you, but I’ve never felt that hot after a bag of Dorito’s and Salsa.

healthy foodsBut give me a creamy salmon fillet with a rocket salad and I’m in heaven before, during and after my meal.

I know I feel good when I eat good.

So here’s the deal, I don’t believe that eating needs to be complicated. Therefore eating to lose weight doesn’t need to be complicated either.

Let me ask you a question … has anyone really ever gotten fat by overeating chicken and broccoli, fish and salad, lentils and vegetables, nuts and fruits? Really?

How do people really get fat? They eat foods that are full of sugar and fat. Burgers, pizzas, french fries, chocolate, cookies, donuts, ice-cream, candy, pudding …. you get my drift here, right?

That’s why I say, if you’re trying to lose weight just go natural. And for the first 2 weeks don’t even think about portion control. Just get rid of the junk for 2 weeks and you’ll automatically feel better. It just stands to reason. And if you’re not too sure what you can eat there’s a very basic philosophy I believe in and that’s, “If God didn’t make it – don’t eat it!”healthy foods

I believe in keeping things really simple. Cavemen didn’t diet and I’ve never seen an obese caveman in any of my school books. Food was uncomplicated back in the day. It was all healthy food. Exercise was part of the daily routine of the hunter gatherer. Men hunted wild animals and women foraged for healthy foods from the earth. Everything was natural. They didn’t count calories, or weigh themselves with rocks every morning! Obesity wasn’t an issue because everything was in balance.

Our bodies were not designed to assimilate the rubbish that’s in our foods today. Chemicals and toxins in the form of flavorings, colorings and preservatives abound.

We even have to be wary of the natural foods we eat like chicken. I saw a chicken breast in the supermarket the other day that would have put Pamela Anderson to shame! It was HUGE!!!

Makes you wonder what they fed the chook. If I’d seen it before it ended up on the supermarket shelf I’d say she would have looked like a female version of Sylvester Stallone. Not natural at all. So I’m not eating it.

How crazy is it that we live in a world with genetically modified food? Who signed off on that piece of crazy???

Anyway, that’s my rant for the day.

Bottom line, eat healthy foods, don’t worry about what tryptophan is (still can’t spell it without looking at the article) and find your motivation to lose weight.

That’s really all you need to do to get in the best shape of your life. Never diet again. Just eat healthy foods, do an exercise you enjoy and work out your motivation to lose weight. That’s it!

Would love to hear YOUR thoughts on the subject … till tomorrow!

My Motivation To Lose Weight | But I Still Want To Pig Out | Day 47 of P90X 90 Day Challenge

pig outYou’ve found your motivation to lose weight, you’re doing an exercise you enjoy, you’re not weighing yourself, or measuring yourself, or counting calories, you feel great, you’re starting to see results in the mirror, your clothes are fitting looser – but you STILL want to pig out?

Hey, it’s OK. I still feel like a pig out from time to time too. It just means you’re human : )

So I thought I’d put together a little list of the “naughties” I reach for to stop me from doing something I’ll hate myself for the next day. Oh, and speaking of which … here’s something I notice I don’t do anymore …

In the past when I’ve been torturing myself on some ridiculous diet, I was prone to going off the rails and having a super pig out due to the deprivation I felt.

And every morning, the FIRST thought in my head was, “What did I eat yesterday?” And that would dictate my day. Woeful I know.

This time around however, there’s none of that. Because I KNOW that I’ve been good to myself. I’m eating healthfully and mindfully and I’m loving it. There’s no desire to pig out because I can eat whatever I want that’s within my food guidelines. So for the first time in a long time I’m waking up GUILT FREE. What a blessing. The pig out days are behind me.

So, if I’m still feeling like a little treat here’s what I turn to – and this is when Lentil Soup (delicious and nutritious as it is) just won’t cut it!

Natural Yogurt and Honey

This is divine after dinner. I take a cup of natural lo-fat yogurt, drizzle it with about a tablespoon of honey and sprinkle about a dozen chopped walnuts. OMG it is divine. The texture and flavors of the honey mixed in with the walnuts are akin to Baklava, just without the pastry, butter and sugar! It is a delightful heavenly treat that you can enjoy without guilt. You can also sprinkle a little bit of cinnamon in the mix too. Very good for weight loss and digestion also.

Rice Crackers and Pure Fruit Jam

When I’m feeling like a crunchy snack I’ll take 3 whole grain rice crackers and spread a thin layer of pure fruit jam on top. If you’re feeling like an extra rush, add a layer of healthy peanut butter as well. Just seems so naughty, but it’s really not.

Sultanas and Walnuts

I don’t know what it is about this combination but to me it’s like eating Christmas Fruit Tarts. Again, it’s the texture and the flavors. Just delicious and quite enough to curb any sugar cravings.

Dried Apricots (any dried fruit – in moderation)

I always have a jar of Turkish Apricots on hand when I need a quick sugar hit in the middle of the afternoon. 3-4 dried apricots is plenty to kick any urges to the curb.

These are my favorite ways to avoid a pig out – do you have any favorites you’d like to add? If so, please share them below : )

My Motivation To Lose Weight | Lentil Soup For The Soul | Day 46 of P90X 90 Day Challenge

Feeling full is one of the easiest ways to prevent cravings and when I’m feeling a bit naughty I always turn to a hearty bowl of Lentil Soup.

lentil soup
Lentil Soup For The Soul

I want to share with you the yummiest way of staying full that I’ve ever come across. I’m not too sure how you feel about Lentil Soup, but lentils could become your very best friend.

Lentils are an incredible source of protein and they’re also full of fiber. It’s the fiber that should get you excited. It means they keep you full.

I think one of the hardest things to get in the habit of when we’re trying to learn new healthy eating habits, is having something healthy on hand when we need it.

So for that reason, I always try and make sure I have a pot of Lentil Soup in the wings ready for a quick re-heat.

This recipe comes to you via my BFF Lisa who put me onto this many years ago when we were sharing a flat together.

Enjoy – it’s scrumptious.

Lentil Soup For The Soul

Ingredients

1 cup lentils

1/2 cup pearl barley

1 onion

garlic – as many cloves as you like (I put about a dozen in whole but that’s my personal preference)

2 sliced carrots

2 cups cauliflower pieces

1 cup broccoli pieces

3 sliced courgettes

6 chopped mushrooms

2 tbspns miso

tamari and rock salt to taste

Method of Preparation

Boil the barley in roughly 8 cups of water, on high for about 30 minutes and then add the lentils and boil for another 20 minutes.

Add chopped onion, garlic, carrots, cauliflower and miso and bring the heat down to a gentle boil with lid semi covering the pot for 10 minutes.

Add remaining vegetables and simmer gently for another 10 minutes.

Take off the heat and allow to cool so the flavors can settle in.

Best served next day.

And that’s it – so simple and yet so nutritious. I reach for a quick bowl of Lentil Soup at lunch time, and even dinner time if I can’t be bothered preparing a meal, and I LOVE it. It’s so good for you and really keeps you feeling satisfied.

I hope you like it. If you decide to try it, leave me a comment and let me know how it went : )

My Motivation To Lose Weight | Eat To Lose Weight With Chicken Curry For The Soul

eat to lose weightYou have to eat to lose weight. There’s no way around it. It’s WHAT you eat that matters.

I love Chicken Curry. I crave it. So when I took on my P90X 90 day challenge, the idea of going without Chicken Curry for that long seemed a little harsh.

And for me, that’s the number one reason diets don’t work. Because the minute you think about going on one, all you can think about is all the things you have to go without. You have to eat to lose weight, and preferably you have to eat what you LIKE to lose weight.

So the purpose of today’s post is to reinforce to you that you need to eat to lose weight. You need healthy, nutritious foods that will nourish your body and excite your taste buds and keep you engaged in the process of getting into the best shape of your life.

So basically I needed to find a way that I could incorporate Chicken Curry into my eating program.

And this is what I came up with.

So if you’re currently looking for new and exciting ways you can excite your taste buds on your weight loss program, check this out.

“Chicken Curry For The Soul”

Ingredients (for 1person)

1 chicken breast, cut into cubes no bigger than 1cm

1/2 finely chopped onion

1/8 tspn turmeric

1/2 tspn cumin

1 tbspn chopped coriander (cilantro)

2 tbspn lo-fat natural yogurt

2 tbpsn sultanas

Grab a non-stick fry pan and set to a med-high heat.

Saute the onion in the olive oil.

Add the chicken and cook for about 5 mins.

My Motivation To Lose Weight | How To Lose Weight Without … | Day 37 of P90X 90 Day Challenge

Does the mere thought of going on a diet fill you will dread because up until now you haven’t known how to lose weight without giving up good stuff? Because going on a diet has always been about deprivation in some shape or form?

If you’re nodding your head right now, then I want to reach out to you and promise you that there is a way to lose weight once and for all that won’t have you focussing on all the things you have to give up, but instead will have you focussing on all the things you enjoy.

So let’s get started on a short list of how to lose weight without doing stupid stuff.

How To Lose Weight Without Dieting

how to lose weight withoutAs soon as I hear the word diet, all I think about is, “What do I have to give up?”

I don’t believe in dieting any more. I don’t think it’s natural and I don’t think it works. For goodness sakes, if diets worked I wouldn’t still be trying to lose the same 50lbs for the past 33 years! They don’t work because all you’re thinking about when you’re on a diet is all of the yummy stuff you want to eat when you get to your goal weight. The problem with this is, if and when you do get to goal, if you go back to your old eating patterns, you’re simply heading back in the same direction you’ve just come from.

I’ve always wanted to know how to lose weight without dieting so I started to look into this subject seriously. What I discovered was eye-opening.

I learned that I had to learn to think about food differently. I had to start looking at food as a way to nourish my body – not attack it. I had to look at everything I was putting into my mouth and ask myself, is this a healthy fuel or a toxic waste?

Remember, EVERYTHING you put in your body has to be processed by your body. If you put in JUNK, your body is going to turn it into JUNK on your HIPS. As always, I am over simplifying things here because I don’t believe this is a complicated subject.

You are what you eat. It’s as simple as that.

So throw away the junk and start looking at healthy proteins, veges, fruits, nuts and legumes as your fuel source.

I promise you, if you can just throw away the JUNK for TWO weeks, you’ll FEEL the difference in your body. I won’t lie to you, if you’re heavily addicted to chemically laden toxic food it’s not going to be easy for the first two weeks. But you have to decide how bad you want your goal. Do you want to lose weight bad enough that you’re prepared to change the way you eat? Because if you’re not prepared to change, nothing in your life will change.

For things to change, first you must change.

How To Lose Weight Without Depriving Yourself

Deprivation diets work for a short period of time. They work for as long as you can handle the deprivation.

But here’s the problem with deprivation diets. When you’re on one, all you can think about is everything you can’t eat. Sure they’re a great way to lose weight fast and get instant results. But if you haven’t learned any new behaviors whilst on your deprivation diet you’re in for a load of trouble when you come off it.

Case in point, Oprah. Check this post out and see how Oprah felt after losing 67lbs using a deprivation diet only to put it all back on again PLUS SOME!!!

It makes far more sense to learn how to eat delicious foods that taste good, provide nourishment, eliminate toxic food cravings and help you lose weight whilst you eat them. Doesn’t it???

How To Lose Weight Without Being Miserablehow to lose weight without

Most diets make you miserable don’t they? You can’t have this, you can’t have that, you can’t go here and there …

How is this a recipe for success? It’s NOT!!! And that’s why diets don’t work!!!

You’ve got to find a way to lose weight that you can fit into your lifestyle that makes you happy whilst you’re doing it!

When you choose to eat natural foods you can go anywhere you want, whenever you want. Check this out … your husband wants to take you out for a romantic dinner and you’re on a deprivation diet. Do you say, “Sure … let’s go and I’ll pack a shake!” NO!!! What do you say instead, “Don’t you know I’m on diet??? How inconsiderate of you!”

No wonder diets don’t work. Even the husbands don’t want a bar of it.

But if you’re eating from nature the whole menu opens up to you.

In this day and age of food intolerances and allergies, restaurants have wizened up to the fact that they need to be accommodating to special food requests. So you can order fish, chicken or beef with all the sauces on the side if you wish. There’s always the option of a green side salad and most times even steamed veges on the side. You can go out and eat healthy.

So why say no to a romantic gesture, just because you’re on a diet? Doesn’t make sense and it doesn’t work.

So if you’re trying to work out how to lose weight without being miserable, simply adopt a healthy eating plan that fits in with your life. There are so many healthy food options to choose from that will keep you and your taste buds delighted whilst you lose weight.

How To Lose Weight Without Saying No To Life

Say yes to life. You’re going to be living it for a long time so you’re going to have to find a way to adopt a healthy lifestyle if you really want to lose weight and keep it off forever.

The family wants to go away for a week and all you can think of is, “But I have to do my exercise routine, and I have to eat my pre-packaged foods.” That doesn’t sound like fun, does it?

I get that you want to stick to your diet and exercise routine, but should going away for a week really put such a spanner in the works? No it shouldn’t.

So you can’t do the workouts you’d normally do for a week. So what! Pack your running shoes and go for a 45min walk each day. It may be a nice break in routine for your body and you! See different sights. Walk a different path. It’s good for you.

And when it comes to eating, well if you’re eating from nature that’s never going to be a problem.

How To Lose Weight Without Going Crazy

By adopting a method of losing weight that’s natural and can easily be incorporated into your lifestyle, you’re not going to go crazy. Because this will BE your life, FOR life. Dieters go crazy when they go against nature. It’s as simple as that. So if you really want to know how to lose weight without going crazy, just try going natural for 2 weeks. That’s all I ask.

If you’re overweight and miserable and you’re addicted to JUNK food, you’ve got to understand that it’s the toxic chemicals in the foods you’re eating that are making you overweight and miserable. Again, this is not rocket science here.

Addiction to junk food is not that dissimilar to other addictions. You’ve got to break the pattern.

In Conclusion

I’m not an expert by any means in the field of nutrition or exercise. But I do have 33 years of experience in the diet industry. I’ve been a guinea pig to every diet ever created. If you want to see a few that I’ve done check out my first post.

What I want for you, from the bottom of my heart is to help you find your motivation to lose weight and keep it off forever. I believe that diets don’t work, that the diet industry has a vested interest in keeping us fat, and that the only person who can really make it happen is YOU. You have all you need inside of you right now to make a decision. A decision that you don’t want to live like this any more. You have to make a decision to make the necessary changes in your life in order for you to be happy.

There are secrets here in my blog posts that reveal how to lose weight without ever having to deprive yourself again, and how to lose weight and keep it off forever.

I hope you enjoyed this post. Please remember to click ‘like’ or leave a comment below.

My Motivation To Lose Weight | Coffee and Weight Loss | Day 34 of P90X 90 Day Challenge

coffee and weight lossThe subject of coffee can be quite controversial so when the subject of coffee and weight loss came up I knew I had to look deeper into this controversial little bean. So let’s delve into coffee and weight loss and see if we can give it the thumbs up or not.

The Cons of Coffee and Weight Loss

For a long time I’ve been put off coffee because of the way it can negatively affect blood sugar levels which in turn affects how we burn fat. Basically caffeine raises blood sugar levels which results in a spike in insulin being released in your blood stream. The insulin is trying to find a way to regulate your blood sugar so the easiest thing for it to do is store the excess sugar as fat.

The other issue too is that elevated blood sugar levels can cause you to crave poor food choices.

Another aspect of coffee and weight loss that I’m not all gung-ho for is the fact that it does have diurretic properties. You’ll lose water weight because of it and that might look great on the bathroom scales (that you should have thrown away by now anyway!) but is not indicative of losing body fat which is what you’re ultimately going for. So remember to keep up your water intake.

The Pros of Coffee and Weight Loss

Coffee and weight loss seem to go together as coffee acts as an appetite suppressant. It’s weird, because as you know I took Diet Pills a while back as a way to suppress my appetite and they didn’t work a darn. I started drinking coffee again after my IBS scare seemed to be a thing of the past, and I noticed that I was no longer ravenous. I didn’t even link it to the fact that I was drinking coffee again until I started doing this research.

Another way that coffee and weight loss are linked together is the fact that coffee has thermogenic properties. Caffeine in coffee has been found to boost your metabolism which allows you to effectively burn off calories. So if you’re burning calories more effectively that means there are less calories being converted and stored as fat.

Coffee and weight loss also seem to do a little tango when it comes to exercise too. Having a quick little espresso or a black coffee before a workout can give you an extra boost of energy and a put a cheeky little bounce in your step. You’ll work out just a little harder, walk a little faster, dance a little longer, therefore burn a little more.

coffee and weight lossSo how much coffee is the right amount?

I would say definitely no more than 3 cups a day. Any more than that and we might have to peel you off the ceiling. Anything in moderation is safe.

And keep in mind that coffee is fat-free, carb-free, calorie-free. So don’t ruin a good thing by adding cream and sugar. A splash of lo-fat milk is all you should be grabbing for.

Now, there is no hard and fast documentation on coffee and weight loss so it’s really a personal choice. For me, however I see enough health benefits to keep enjoying my cup of java without guilt. It’s a #1 source of antioxidants and has many other health benefits as well. Check out a new study by researchers at the University of Scrantan (Pa.)

So what do you think about coffee and weight loss?

Thumbs up – or thumbs down?

My Motivation To Lose Weight | Lose Weight With A Secret Italian Ingredient | Day 30 of P90X 90 Day Challenge

lose weightIt took me a long time to realize that I was missing a secret ingredient in my quest to lose weight. The Italians knew about this ingredient. They cook with it every day. No Italian meal would ever be created without it. Do you know what it is?

The secret missing Italian ingredient you need to lose weight, is LOVE.

I don’t know how many times I’ve thrown food down my throat, with very little thought about it’s preparation, it’s origins or even it’s content. Food for so many years was a source of anything but nutrition and enjoyment. It was a means to an end.

But it wasn’t until just recently when I read an article about how the Italians cook with love, that I understood that food could be so much more. From the selection and handling of food, to the preparation and presentation of food, to the consumption of food, the Italians are passionate about their food. Food is always a cause of celebration, of bringing family members together, and is always mixed with fun and laughter.

Casanova himself was reported to have said, “Sex is like eating and eating is like sex.”

Need I say more on the subject of food and love?

Now practicality must intervene. We can’t host an Italian Festival whenever we want to eat. But there are a few little things we can do to spice up our relationship with food and help us lose weight as well.

lose weightFor starters, choose your food with love at the supermarket.

When you’re in the vege section, don’t just grab any old vegetable. Really look for the most attractive foods you can find. Turn them over, inspect them. Make sure they are worthy of your dinner plate.

When you’re preparing your food, be calm and think loving thoughts.

I know a few dinners I’ve prepared in anger were about as tasty as a pair of old boots. Food seems to know when it’s being loved or not. Think Jamie Oliver NOT Gordon Ramsay.

Present your food lovingly.lose weight

For some reason it just tastes better. My Mum always says that the success of a meal is in the presentation. And it’s so true. Don’t slap your food together like a dog’s breakfast. Put some love into it. It really doesn’t take that much imagination to make your food look beautiful.

And lastly, slow down and enjoy your food.

When was the last time you actually tasted your food? And I mean really tasted your food.

One of the reasons why you lose weight when eating in this way, is that when you slow down to savor your food, your stomach as a chance to signal you when you’re starting to feel full. When you eat too fast, your stomach doesn’t have a chance to keep up with your fork so it can only send you a message when you’re stuffed! And this doesn’t help you lose weight.

So add a little love to your food. You’ll be amazed how this one simple ingredient can help you lose weight.

Gotta run and do Yoga!

Hope you enjoyed this post. Would love to hear your thoughts.

P.S. If you’re wondering what this post is all about, you’ll need to start at the beginning on Day 1. That post explains my crusade here.

Hope to see you again :  )

My Motivation To Lose Weight | Lose Weight With Cinnamon | Day 28 of P90X 90 Day Challenge

lose weight with cinnamon
Lose Weight With Cinnamon

Do you know you can lose weight with cinnamon? And no, I am not talking about Cinnamon Buns!

You can lose weight with cinnamon but adding it to your Skim Milk Cappuccino, or mix it in with your Lo-Fat Natural Yogurt and Honey. Wherever you like a dash of cinnamon, just add it and know that it’s helping you lose weight.

Cinnamon has been used for centuries to heal a host of ailments including bloating, indigestion and diarrhea.

But for the purpose of this post you can also lose weight with cinnamon because of the way it affects your blood sugar levels. It actively lowers your blood sugar levels whilst increasing your insulin levels which increases the metabolism of glucose.

The most exciting thing that you’ll notice straight away is that cinnamon reduces your sugar cravings. And if you don’t have any sugar cravings it makes it that much easier to avoid the sugary things that tempt you and sabotage your motivation to lose weight.

Another way you lose weight with cinnamon is that it affects the way you metabolize sugar in your system and actually stops it being converted to fat! How incredible is that?

However, the benefits don’t stop there. Another way you can lose weight with cinnamon is that it slows down the process of food leaving your stomach so you get a fuller feeling faster, and it lasts longer.

But that’s not even the best part! Do you want to know what the really great thing about cinnamon is???

Studies reveal that cinnamon is a very pro-active ingredient in fighting belly fat! (For more belly fighting foods read “Vegetables That Will Help Get Rid Of Belly Fat”)

So, do you need any more reasons to add cinnamon to your shopping list?

I promise you, there are so many healthy, natural ways you can lose weight and keep it off forever by adopting a whole new approach to weight loss.

The diet industry have got it wrong. They don’t have your best interests at heart. They only have their own interests at heart. How many diets have you been on? Can you tell me how many calories there are in a banana? Is that how many diets you’ve been on? Me too. And none of them worked long term. Why? Because diets don’t work. Common sense is the best diet you can get.

My 90 day challenge is about proving that you can get in the best shape of your life, without dieting, without watching your calories, without weighing yourself and without measuring yourself.

I am documenting every step of my journey and at the end of it I will prove that losing weight and keeping it off forever will come down to the right motivitation to lose weight and finding an eating plan and an exercise plan that you love and look forward to. I know there are more factors that come into play. Believe me – I know all the factors. I’ve been dieting for 33 years, (you can see my list here) so I know the hurdles. But I also now know how to overcome them

Join me here as I blog daily about my journey, and share with you tips and insights that may help you on your journey to getting into the best shape of your life, once and for all.

Here’s to your success. You know you deserve it :  )

P.S. If you have any of your own diet secrets to share, spill the beans below. We all need to know.

My Motivation To Lose Weight | Vegetables That Will Help Get Rid of Belly Fat | Day 27 of P90X 90 Day Challenge

rid of belly fat
Get Rid Of Bely Fat Once And for All

No matter how many sit-ups, crunches or planks you do, you’ll never get rid of belly fat just by exercise alone.

But before I reveal the vegetables that will help get rid of belly fat we need to understand what can cause it in the first place. A few of these reasons may surprise you.

Late Night Snacking

No surprises here. Who remembers Oprah Winfrey’s famous line, “After 8, not even a grape.” There’s wisdom in this mantra.

Your dinner needs a good 3 hours to fully digest. Going to bed with a full belly interrupts this process. So if you want to get rid of belly fat, keep the snacking to an absolute minimum before bed. And if you must snack, reach for lo-fat natural yogurt, or a banana, or maybe even some nuts.

Slow Metabolism

It’s a well known fact that as we age our metabolism slows down which means the way we burned calories in our twenties isn’t the same way we’ll burn them in our forties. So we need to take this into account. How many girls do you know who were as skinny as a rake at high-school, could eat whatever they wanted and never had to diet, who have lost that edge as they aged? And sadly, an aging metabolism can lead to fat depositing itself around your belly.

Stress

For some of you, if you really want to get rid of belly fat you’re going to have to look at your stress levels. Now stress itself doesn’t make you fat. But stress can play havoc with your hormones. When you’re under stress your body releases cortisol which increases blood sugar. This can play havoc with your metabolism and lead to unhealthy cravings. Poor Posture

I’m just throwing this one out there. I learned a trick from a really fit gym instructor one day. I asked her how to get rid of belly fat and she said, “Stand up and suck it in!” Not quite the answer I was looking for. And then she did something that utterly shocked me. This gorgeous, slim, sexy, toned gym instructor let her stomach muscles go and there before my eyes was belly fat!

So, once you start working on your core and you start to feel your Gwen Stefani abs rocking under your belly fat, start learning to suck it in. You’ll lose inches in seconds.

OK, fun stuff aside. How do we get rid of belly fat – seriously?

The bad news is, there’s no quick fix on how to reduce belly fat immediately. If someone promises you they have one, they’re lying.

The good news is, there are foods you can add to your diet that will help stimulate the burning of belly fat. We’ve already discussed medical research supporting lo-fat natural yogurt as a way to reduce belly fat, but there are a few vegetables as well that will get your belly-fat-burning-furnace all fired up.

Cruciferous Vegetables – Super Veges!

This class of vegetable contains unique phytonutrients that help you in your fight to get rid of belly fat.

Belly Fat Fighting Super Veges

Harmful chemicals in our environment can play havoc with our hormones and stimulate our bodies to store belly fat. Phytonutrients fight against the effects of certain hormonal imbalances.

So what do you want to be adding to your dinner? Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussel Sprouts, Kale, Bok Choy, Cabbage, Collard Greens, Rutabaga, Arugula (Rocket), Watercress, Radishes & Wasabi.

So there you have it! Mum knew best when she said “Eat your greens!”

In Conclusion

Losing weight and keeping it off forever is a journey. There are no quick fixes and diets don’t work. The reason I’m writing this blog is to prove once and for all, that with pure focus and determination and a sound motivation to lose weight, we can all lose weight and keep it off forever by never dieting again, by  never weighing ourselves again, and by eating foods that fulfill us and nourish us.

FOR THE RECORD:

I am not an affiliate of BeachBody. I am not selling or promoting BeachBody.

I simply enjoy P90X and Tony makes me laugh. And how many people do you know who actually enjoy their exercise? I’ll be honest. I hated it in the beginning. If you read some of my first posts I just wanted to puke!

But after a full month, I’m starting to feel my own Gwen Stefani rockin’ hard abs start to form under my belly fat. I’m starting to see long limber limbs from a month’s worth of Yoga. I don’t have any sugar cravings or any food cravings. I am happy! For the first time ever, I can see that I am losing weight, starting to look great and I don’t have a clue what the scales say! And I don’t care. All I know is, what I see is starting to look good.

As I progress through my 90 day challenge I will share with you the things that I am learning. And after 90 days I’ll show you the results of what can be achieved by never dieting again.

Deep down we all know they don’t work. If they did work, why would new ones keep coming out? Why would it be a multi-billion dollar industry? It’s like the casino industry. Excited punters hoping to win big, becoming more and more desperate with each roll of the dice, knowing deep down that the odds are always stacked against them.

It’s the same thing with the diet industry. Desperate overweight people, excitedly taking a gamble on the next weight loss guru promising “easy, fast results with our revolutionary new technology designed to give you the sculpted body of your dreams.”

And where does most of that technology end up? Under the bed collecting dust. And don’t get me started on the diets! Diet’s we can’t stick to because they’re either too complicated, too regimented or worse yet, too boring!

I should know! I’ve been trying to lose the same 50lbs for the past 33 years! You’ll see a list of them in my first post.

This is a journey to unlock the real secrets to losing weight that the diet industry doesn’t want you to know. Follow my journey as I reveal all.
