My Motivation To Lose Weight | How Did I Find It? | Day 65 of 90 Day Challenge

by Erica

Motivation to lose weight can be quite bewildering. One day you’ve got it, and the next day it’s dwindling. So how do you find a motivation to lose weight that’s invincible?

For me, finding my motivation to lose weight was about making a point. For some reason, doing it for myself wasn’t motivation enough. I’d tried to lose weight before, unsuccessfully each time. And this year I got angry.

This year I said enough is enough. I got so sick and tired of the multi billion dollar diet industry taking advantage of us and sucking us into their latest craze. It’s just not OK! They’re getting rich and we’re staying fat!

We’re vulnerable. They know this. They know that if they package their pills, shakes, bands or whatever it is in such a way that makes it sounds “NEW” and “REVOLUTIONARY” with “SECRET INGREDIENTS” we’re going to fall for it, hook line and sinker.

Heck, last night I nearly fell for some new pills that have ancient ingredients from Siberia, Indonesia and the Amazon that the  indigenous people use for strength, stamina and appetite suppressant on long marches. Come on people! Really??? It’s all too much.

motivation to lose weightThere are no secret ingredients. I promise you. It’s all hocus pocus marketing designed to get you to open your wallet and feed your hard earned money into the ravenously hungry monster that is the multi-billion dollar diet industry.

Don’t feed it any more. I promise you, it doesn’t deserve your contribution.

Don’t let it prey on your vulnerability any longer.

Take charge of your situation and ask yourself honestly, what would it take for you to find your motivation to lose weight?

What would motivate you to get up every day and exercise, to eat right, no matter what?

  • Would you do it for your kids so you can live a healthier life with them?
  • Would you do it for someone you love so you can enjoy a fuller life with them?
  • Would you do it to find love if you don’t have love already?
  • Would you do it to change your life so that you could live the life you dream of?
  • Would you do it for a better job?

What would get you so pumped up that no matter what got in your way, you’d still want to stay on the path?

That’s what you have to ask yourself.

For me, my motivation to lose weight was all about finally being honest about my weight and admitting that I’m not OK with how I look, I’m not OK with the opportunities I pass up because of it and I’m not OK with the way I stand in the shadows and watch everyone else live life with carefree abandon. And most of all, I’m not OK with the diet industry conning me with it’s crazy shakes and pills!

My motivation to lose weight is reinforced with a bold mission to prove once and for all that DIETS DON’T WORK and that we can do this on our own! It doesn’t take magic. It just takes conviction.

I know you don’t have it right now, but if you did have your motivation to lose weight all sorted out, what would it look like?

Visualise how you would be if you had your motivation to lose weight firmly rooted in your psyche.

How would you walk and talk and hold yourself? Would you walk a little taller today? Maybe a little bolder? Would you hold your head a little higher?

My friends, I have to tell you this. You have everything you need, inside of you right now to get this thing done. I promise you. All you need to do is identify the one thing that gets you all fired up, and hold onto that. Because the moment when you don’t feel like doing what needs to be done, that’s when you have to be able to fall back on something bigger and stronger than you.

Every time I don’t feel like exercising, I think how I’m going to feel when I admit that in my blog.

Every time I feel like eating chocolate, or drinking wine, I think how I’m going to feel admitting that I broke down.

And it’s knowing that I’m being held accountable that keeps me on track. This blog is my motivation to lose weight. The discoveries I am making about myself and my journey are my motivation to lose weight. The fact that I might even be able to help others with this blog is my  motivation to lose weight. You see where I’m going here?

I want you to dig deep and ask yourself these TWO very important questions:

  1. What’s holding you back? and
  2. What would you do if you actually believed you could do it this time?

I need you to watch this again …

Hi Michael, it’s pretty hard to stick to a work out plan when you don’t find it inspiring.

Actually as we speak I am trying to get myself motivated to work out … just not feeling it today. But I’ll still do it because it’s a commitment I’ve made to myself and my readers. Also, I know that half way through I always start to enjoy it.

And that’s why it’s so important to find an exercise you look forward to doing. Because if you don’t, you’re just going to find excuses not to do it.

And exercise along with healthy eating is the key … we all know it … we just have to find a way to put it all into practice and ENJOY the process : )

Hello

I have been browsing the internet this afternoon so see how i can find it in me to motivate myself to get up off my arse and exercise – i like u do not believe in diets – its all about a health and lifestyle change – i am in a cycle = feel fat, miserable and have no enthusiasm to stick to changing my lifestyle. i know what needs to be done – just don’t do it , i get mad at my husband as I feel bad but take it out on him. maybe I don’t want it as bad as i think otherwise I would stick with it – am thinking of doing a blog like u to see if this helps – need some support on how to start this change . not sure if u are just sharing your experiences or provide a service. love to hear from you

Hi Minal,

It’s so nice to meet you … you and I are not that different. I don’t know how long you’ve been in your cycle, but up until this year I had been going through that same cycle for 33 years!

I sincerely know the pain and sadness you feel … but I’m also excited because I know that you at least KNOW you’re in a cycle. That’s the first step to breaking the cycle – actually acknowledging that you’re in one.

If you’ve read a few of my posts you’ll see that I’ve tried every diet under the sun. But in all of them, I never quite had my motivation to lose weight firmly in place. I was simply going through the motions of the diet or exercise program, without having my heart and mind fully engaged. So when it was over, if I made it very far, I just went straight back to my old habits because whatever program I was on made me miserable. I couldn’t find anything that made me FEEL GOOD. Know what I mean?

But don’t despair … we can get you to where you want to be … if you really want to get there.

So here’s my first recommendation … look deep inside yourself and ask yourself what you really get out of being in your cycle? There’s a payoff in there somewhere. I know it doesn’t seem like it right now but somewhere in your vicious cycle you get a payoff.

I’ll give you an example. When I asked myself that same question I learned that being overweight allowed me to play small (ironic I know). It allowed me to blend in with the furniture. I didn’t have to have opinions, didn’t have to put myself out there so to speak. I could hide so easily.

When it got down to it, I realized that a part of me was afraid of being beautiful and getting attention, and a part of me didn’t believe that I deserved to be slim.

And that’s what held me back from really committing to losing weight.

So once you’ve sorted that out … now we need to find you a motivation to lose weight that is invincible.

What do you really want your life to look like?
What would you do if you got down to your goal weight?
Who would you look like?
What clothes would you wear?
How would you do your hair and makeup?
Where would you go?
How would you feel?

When you have an image of what your life would be like when you achieve your goal THAT becomes your motivation to lose weight. And it has to be STRONG!!!

For me, the next step was being brutally honest about my struggles and being held accountable.

My blog kept me accountable. It made me exercise when I didn’t feel like it. It made me eat sensibly when sometimes I really didn’t want to. And it made me stop drinking … which was REALLY hard!

So, if you want to set up a blog I can help you with that … it’s really simple … if you really want to blog about your journey shoot me an email at ericajean124@gmail.com and I’ll get you started.

This is exciting Minal. If you really want to find your motivation to lose weight, and kiss the diet industry good-bye once and for all … you’re on the right path, right here.

And give your hubby and hug and let him know it’s all going to be different from now on … and remember, he adores you no matter what : )

Hi Erica. I came across your blog searching for motivation online. Your words are my words. This paragraph really hit home for me: ‘ For me, my motivation to lose weight was all about finally being honest about my weight and admitting that I’m not OK with how I look, I’m not OK with the opportunities I pass up because of it and I’m not OK with the way I stand in the shadows and watch everyone else live life with carefree abandon. ‘ I could also add…I’m SO tired of not being able to fit into my clothes! I’ve gone from fashionista to frumpanista. My weight slowly crept up for the past year and a half and I am also angry and so fed up. I will keep up with your blog. Thanks for your determination.

Hello Sexy – may I call you that? I hope you don’t mind : )

I believe you are sexy already … the fact that you are bold enough to have it as your name suggests that you are so close to making a decision to get back into the best shape of your life right now.

If you don’t mind me asking, what is stopping you from finding your motivation to lose weight, and what are you angry and fed up about?

It’s interesting because it was my anger that finally got me fired up to “do this.” Believe me, there have been plenty of times when I’ve thought, “Why on earth am I doing this again???”

My blog has kept me honest.

I’m so glad you found me … I would love to help you get back on track : )
