Motivation To Lose Weight | Healthy Foods to Lose Weight Fast | Day 71 of 90 Day Challenge

Motivation to lose weight means so many different things to so many different people.

Our motivation to lose weight comes down to a compelling reason that stimulates or inspires us to move towards our goals.

So have you found your motivation to lose weight yet? Your compelling reason that will keep you motivated through your ups and downs, through rain and shine?

To be utterly frank with you I’m pissed off with life right now … and it’s raining outside. How motivated do you think I am to exercise right now? About as motivated as a slug in summer.

But what keeps me going? My writing. My blog posts.motivation to lose weight

My blog keeps me honest and holds me accountable. And for me, that’s what it took to get this far. So many times I didn’t have the motivation I needed to keep going. And yet the thought of admitting failure in my blog kept me going. It’s been my source of strength.

It is my deepest desire that my blog will inspire others to do the same.

If you’re reading this right now and you’re desperate to find your own motivation to lose weight, perhaps you’ll find it by doing as I have done … by throwing down the gauntlet to the diet industry and saying, “Heck no! Not again. This time I’m doing it MY way!”

I’ve learned some secrets along the way … most of them you’ll find in these blog posts.

But here’s the one that I keep getting emails on most of all … what are the healthy foods I can eat to lose weight fastwell here they are:

Proteins

Chicken, Turkey, Fish, Salmon, Tuna, Pork, Tofu, Egg Whites, Red Meat (sparingly).

How much? As you know, I’m not a fan of weighing anything. Look at the size of the back of your hand and that should give you an indication of how much.

Vegetables

Anything goes … the best veges that will help get rid of belly fat are cruciferous vegetables such as Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussel Sprouts, Kale, Bok Choy, Cabbage, Collard Greens, Rutabaga, Arugula (Rocket), Watercress, Radishes & Wasabi.

Be sensible with the starchy ones like potato, pumpkin, butternut squash etc. As delicious as they are they are not the most conducive vegetables for losing weight. Just keep that in mind.

Fruits

Anything goes … but in moderation.

Keep in mind the high sugar count in fruit. If you’re trying to lose weight I would recommend keeping it down to around 1-2 serves a day maximum!

Sugar is not your friend. Even when it’s in one of God’s most delicious creations. But anything in moderation is fine.

Carbs / Grains / Legumes

Oatmeal, Cous Cous, Brown Rice, Lentils, Hummus, Quinoa, Beans, Whole Grain Cereal, Whole Grain Bread, Whole Grain Pita Bread.

How much? Again, I’m not into measuring but I would say 1 cup of any of the above and when it comes to bread I would say 2 slices is acceptable.

Dairy

Cheese: Feta, Goat, Skim Milk Mozzarella, Lo-fat Cottage and Parmesan.

Milk: Skim, Soy and Rice.

Yogurt: Low Fat Natural with Acidophilus. motivation to lose weight

This for me is one of my secret weapons that’s helping me get rid of belly fat. When do you most often get the munchies? After dinner right? Next time you get the munchies I want you to try this.

1 cup of Low Fat Yogurt

1 tablespoon of liquid honey drizzled on top

1 handful of chopped walnuts (any nuts really but I prefer walnuts in this mix)

This is to die for!

There is just enough sweetness in the honey to kick all your sugar cravings to the curb and the crunchy nuts make you feel like you’re doing something really naughty – but you’re not! Sometimes I can’t wait to get through dinner just to get to my ‘treat.’

You’ll feel naughty, but you’re actually doing something really good for yourself. Try it and see. This is how I got rid of my sugar cravings. And without sugar cravings you have a far better chance of losing weight. Don’t you agree?

Fats

Oil: Olive, Flaxseed, Coconut.

Avocado & Olives.

Again, allow common sense to prevail

Condiments / Sauces / Spreads

Mustard, Fat Free Dressings, all Vinegar (Balsamic is delicious with Olive Oil), Honey, Peanut Butter and pure Fruit Jams with no added sugar.

PLEASE NOTE: Check all labels when it comes to sauces and dressings … some are so laden with SUGAR that they will sabotage all weight loss efforts.

Try and go as natural as possible.

Olive oil, vinegar, rock salt and pepper with a dash of mustard is a great dressing. Experiment.

Snacks

Rice Cakes, Dried Fruit (in moderation), Turkey Jerky, Nuts.

And there you have it! Play with combinations of the above.

And how about rules you ask? There are no rules, just guidelines and here they are.

Guidelines to healthy, natural eating

  • Eat 3 meals a day and a snack mid-morning and mid afternoon to keep your sugar levels in check and to prevent you bingeing later on.
  • Be sensible with your food portions.
  • Be mindful when you’re eating.
  • Eat slowly so you can savor your food, and so your body has a chance to tell you when it’s full.
  • Add herbs and spices to your meals to give them energy.
  • Eat only what’s natural.

My philosophy for healthy eating and losing weight is pretty simple … “If God didn’t make it – don’t eat it.”

I promise you, you will see the pounds fall off remarkably if you just follow these guidelines.

Get rid of all the junk food and just try this outyour body will thank you.

Your motivation to lose weight comes from you finding a reason that is compelling enough to inspire you daily to move towards your goal of losing weight and keeping it off forever.

You can do this!

Look deep and I promise you, your motivation to lose weight is within you … check this post to see how I found mine.

Motivation To Lose Weight | Rest and Reflection | Day 70 of P90X 90 Day Challenge

My motivation to lose weight was not at it’s peak today. My eating was fine all day, but something in me just wasn’t quite right.

I have some personal things going on my life which are causing me great sadness. It’s nothing I can solve. All I can do is pray that time will heal all. In the meantime, this sadness weighs heavily on me.

The last thing I wanted to do today was exercise. But I had to as part of my personal commitment to my P90X 90 Day Challenge (I know today is supposed to be a rest day … but I had to switch things around earlier in the week).

I procrastinated as much as I could; made extra phone calls, checked emails that didn’t need checking, tidied the house, did the washing … but at the end of the day, I knew I still had to exercise.

Have you ever had days like that? When you just don’t want to exercise?

By 6:30pm I couldn’t put it off any longer and I started Kenpo which is a boxing workout. The first part is stretching and then you get into punching and kicking!motivation to lose weight

I have to tell you, half way through I was pumped! I was loving it! The endorphins were raging and I felt awesome! And I had another revelation:

Sometimes, you’ve just got to stop analyzing everything and “Just Do It!”

And I believe this is when you’re going to get one of your major breakthroughs. This is when you will truly appreciate what exercise can do for you. It’s not just about burning fat and getting fit, it’s about making you feel good!

When you exercise you can get what is called “Runner’s High.” This is when you really push yourself and the rush of endorphins has the effect of opiates, making you feel good and giving you a feeling of well-being. This is so incredible. To be able to make that connection between exercise and feeling good.

I know exercise seems like such a chore, but it’s not. It is a mood enhancer.

This is why I am adamant that you find an exercise you enjoy and look forward to. It will make it so much easier when you’re just “not in the mood.”

So that was my revelation … now it’s time for reflection.

I’ve just committed to 10 weeks of P90X and eating only natural foods, exercising 6 days per week, not dieting because I believe diets don’t work, not weighing myself because I don’t think that’s useful either, and not measuring myself or my food.

And here’s what I notice:

  • Craving carbs is a thing of the past
  • Craving sugar is a thing of the past
  • Healthy foods make me happy
  • Incorporating yoga for weight loss works
  • The best time to exercise, for me is in the early evening
  • And it’s true that there are foods that are seriously helping me get rid of belly fat

I feel like a totally different person. My body is capable of things it simply couldn’t conceive of 10 weeks ago. I feel “alive.”

I have ripped shoulders, sculpted definition in the muscles in my back and my core is off the hook! My jeans are loose by about 3 inches in the waist. It’s happening … it’s really happening and I still have 3 weeks to go …

I look forward to the day when I can show you what’s possible when you don’t diet. I really believe in this and I want nothing more than to share everything I’ve learned over the course of this journey with you.

If you are sick and tired of every new diet gimmick that hits the market place, and you’re wondering if “this is the one” that’s finally going to help you lose weight, I promise you, if you follow my ideas you will learn how to lose weight forever by never dieting again.

The only job you need to do right now is find your motivation to lose weight and I’ll show you how to do the rest. I promise you, it’s so simple!

Motivation To Lose Weight | The Simple Way To Avoid Craving Carbs Like Crazy | Day 53 of 90 Day Challenge

craving carbsAt the end of the day do you find yourself craving carbs like crazy?

Do you find yourself standing in front of the pantry desperately searching for a Cookie Jar or a Reese’s Pieces that might be lurking in a deep, dark magical corner?

Hopefully if you heeded my advice you threw all that rubbish away. So no amount of wishing and wanting is going to make it materialize anyway.

Do you really want to know how to avoid craving carbs like crazy?

You’re going to want to slap me when I tell you, because it really is so ridiculously simple. Actually all of this is ridiculously simple if you allow yourself to believe it to be so.

The way to avoid craving carbs like crazy is …

go to bed before midnight and get up with the sun.

Que?

Let me explain. There are two hormones involved here and I call them the “Two Tony’s.” Their correct names are serotonin and melatonin.

Serotonin is your happy hormone and melatonin is your sleepy hormone and they work like a see-saw. As one goes up the other one goes down. And if you interrupt the see-saw you’re going to get grumpy and start craving carbs because you want to FEEL good again.

craving carbsIt works like this. When you wake in the morning and the sun hits your eyes, you experience a surge in your serotonin levels.

Have you ever done Yoga to a sunrise? WOW! What a rush! Every sunrise feels good, but when you see the sun rise as you go into an Upward Dog, that’s something else entirely. Almost better than … but not quite : )

Your elevated serotonin levels carry you through the day. Then gradually as the sun goes down, so too do your serotonin levels. And it’s this gradual drop in your serotonin levels that gets you craving carbs to ‘make you feel good.’

Melatonin is taking over and is trying to get you to sleep. craving carbs

The way to avoid craving carbs is to recognize melatonin’s message to send you to sleep before midnight, therefore getting you up again with a huge surge in serotonin in the morning to energize you through the day.

If you fight this natural see-saw and give in to craving carbs, and stay up after midnight you’re not allowing the natural flow of melatonin through your body. You’ll wake up feeling like you’ve had a big night on the town, need five cups of coffee to get you moving and you’ll feel like you’re a step behind all day.

So the simple thing to do to avoid craving carbs like crazy, is get to bed before midnight, get up as early as you can, get some sun on your face and skip through the day like Daisy Duke! Seriously, I told you it was simple.

And all of this is simple. It really is. Losing weight is about following nature. We’ve just got to get all this junk out of our heads. Stop counting, stop weighing, stop measuring – just get on with living naturally. All the rest will take care of itself. I promise.

Good luck on your journey.
