No matter how many sit-ups, crunches or planks you do, you’ll never get rid of belly fat just by exercise alone.
But before I reveal the vegetables that will help get rid of belly fat we need to understand what can cause it in the first place. A few of these reasons may surprise you.
Late Night Snacking
No surprises here. Who remembers Oprah Winfrey’s famous line, “After 8, not even a grape.” There’s wisdom in this mantra.
Your dinner needs a good 3 hours to fully digest. Going to bed with a full belly interrupts this process. So if you want to get rid of belly fat, keep the snacking to an absolute minimum before bed. And if you must snack, reach for lo-fat natural yogurt, or a banana, or maybe even some nuts.
It’s a well known fact that as we age our metabolism slows down which means the way we burned calories in our twenties isn’t the same way we’ll burn them in our forties. So we need to take this into account. How many girls do you know who were as skinny as a rake at high-school, could eat whatever they wanted and never had to diet, who have lost that edge as they aged? And sadly, an aging metabolism can lead to fat depositing itself around your belly.
For some of you, if you really want to get rid of belly fat you’re going to have to look at your stress levels. Now stress itself doesn’t make you fat. But stress can play havoc with your hormones. When you’re under stress your body releases cortisol which increases blood sugar. This can play havoc with your metabolism and lead to unhealthy cravings. I’m just throwing this one out there. I learned a trick from a really fit gym instructor one day. I asked her how to get rid of belly fat and she said, “Stand up and suck it in!” Not quite the answer I was looking for. And then she did something that utterly shocked me. This gorgeous, slim, sexy, toned gym instructor let her stomach muscles go and there before my eyes was belly fat!
So, once you start working on your core and you start to feel your Gwen Stefani abs rocking under your belly fat, start learning to suck it in. You’ll lose inches in seconds.
OK, fun stuff aside. How do we get rid of belly fat – seriously?
The bad news is, there’s no quick fix on how to reduce belly fat immediately. If someone promises you they have one, they’re lying.
The good news is, there are foods you can add to your diet that will help stimulate the burning of belly fat. We’ve already discussed medical research supporting lo-fat natural yogurt as a way to reduce belly fat, but there are a few vegetables as well that will get your belly-fat-burning-furnace all fired up.
Cruciferous Vegetables – Super Veges!
This class of vegetable contains unique phytonutrients that help you in your fight to get rid of belly fat.
Harmful chemicals in our environment can play havoc with our hormones and stimulate our bodies to store belly fat. Phytonutrients fight against the effects of certain hormonal imbalances.
So what do you want to be adding to your dinner? Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussel Sprouts, Kale, Bok Choy, Cabbage, Collard Greens, Rutabaga, Arugula (Rocket), Watercress, Radishes & Wasabi.

Losing weight and keeping it off forever is a journey. There are no quick fixes and diets don’t work. The reason I’m writing this blog is to prove once and for all, that with pure focus and determination and a sound motivation to lose weight, we can all lose weight and keep it off forever by never dieting again, by never weighing ourselves again, and by eating foods that fulfill us and nourish us.

I simply enjoy P90X and Tony makes me laugh. And how many people do you know who actually enjoy their exercise? I’ll be honest. I hated it in the beginning. If you read some of my first posts I just wanted to puke!
But after a full month, I’m starting to feel my own Gwen Stefani rockin’ hard abs start to form under my belly fat. I’m starting to see long limber limbs from a month’s worth of Yoga. I don’t have any sugar cravings or any food cravings. I am happy! For the first time ever, I can see that I am losing weight, starting to look great and I don’t have a clue what the scales say! And I don’t care. All I know is, what I see is starting to look good.
As I progress through my 90 day challenge I will share with you the things that I am learning. And after 90 days I’ll show you the results of what can be achieved by never dieting again.
Deep down we all know they don’t work. If they did work, why would new ones keep coming out? Why would it be a multi-billion dollar industry? It’s like the casino industry. Excited punters hoping to win big, becoming more and more desperate with each roll of the dice, knowing deep down that the odds are always stacked against them.
It’s the same thing with the diet industry. Desperate overweight people, excitedly taking a gamble on the next weight loss guru promising “easy, fast results with our revolutionary new technology designed to give you the sculpted body of your dreams.”
And where does most of that technology end up? Under the bed collecting dust. And don’t get me started on the diets! Diet’s we can’t stick to because they’re either too complicated, too regimented or worse yet, too boring!
