Motivation to lose weight means so many different things to so many different people.
Our motivation to lose weight comes down to a compelling reason that stimulates or inspires us to move towards our goals.
So have you found your motivation to lose weight yet? Your compelling reason that will keep you motivated through your ups and downs, through rain and shine?
To be utterly frank with you I’m pissed off with life right now … and it’s raining outside. How motivated do you think I am to exercise right now? About as motivated as a slug in summer.
My blog keeps me honest and holds me accountable. And for me, that’s what it took to get this far. So many times I didn’t have the motivation I needed to keep going. And yet the thought of admitting failure in my blog kept me going. It’s been my source of strength.
It is my deepest desire that my blog will inspire others to do the same.
If you’re reading this right now and you’re desperate to find your own motivation to lose weight, perhaps you’ll find it by doing as I have done … by throwing down the gauntlet to the diet industry and saying, “Heck no! Not again. This time I’m doing it MY way!”
I’ve learned some secrets along the way … most of them you’ll find in these blog posts.
But here’s the one that I keep getting emails on most of all … what are the healthy foods I can eat to lose weight fast … well here they are:
Chicken, Turkey, Fish, Salmon, Tuna, Pork, Tofu, Egg Whites, Red Meat (sparingly).
How much? As you know, I’m not a fan of weighing anything. Look at the size of the back of your hand and that should give you an indication of how much.
Anything goes … the best veges that will help get rid of belly fat are cruciferous vegetables such as Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussel Sprouts, Kale, Bok Choy, Cabbage, Collard Greens, Rutabaga, Arugula (Rocket), Watercress, Radishes & Wasabi.
Be sensible with the starchy ones like potato, pumpkin, butternut squash etc. As delicious as they are they are not the most conducive vegetables for losing weight. Just keep that in mind.
Anything goes … but in moderation.
Keep in mind the high sugar count in fruit. If you’re trying to lose weight I would recommend keeping it down to around 1-2 serves a day maximum!
Sugar is not your friend. Even when it’s in one of God’s most delicious creations. But anything in moderation is fine.
Carbs / Grains / Legumes
Oatmeal, Cous Cous, Brown Rice, Lentils, Hummus, Quinoa, Beans, Whole Grain Cereal, Whole Grain Bread, Whole Grain Pita Bread.
How much? Again, I’m not into measuring but I would say 1 cup of any of the above and when it comes to bread I would say 2 slices is acceptable.
Cheese: Feta, Goat, Skim Milk Mozzarella, Lo-fat Cottage and Parmesan.
Milk: Skim, Soy and Rice.
This for me is one of my secret weapons that’s helping me get rid of belly fat. When do you most often get the munchies? After dinner right? Next time you get the munchies I want you to try this.
1 cup of Low Fat Yogurt
1 tablespoon of liquid honey drizzled on top
1 handful of chopped walnuts (any nuts really but I prefer walnuts in this mix)
This is to die for!
There is just enough sweetness in the honey to kick all your sugar cravings to the curb and the crunchy nuts make you feel like you’re doing something really naughty – but you’re not! Sometimes I can’t wait to get through dinner just to get to my ‘treat.’
You’ll feel naughty, but you’re actually doing something really good for yourself. Try it and see. This is how I got rid of my sugar cravings. And without sugar cravings you have a far better chance of losing weight. Don’t you agree?
Oil: Olive, Flaxseed, Coconut.
Avocado & Olives.
Again, allow common sense to prevail
Condiments / Sauces / Spreads
Mustard, Fat Free Dressings, all Vinegar (Balsamic is delicious with Olive Oil), Honey, Peanut Butter and pure Fruit Jams with no added sugar.
PLEASE NOTE: Check all labels when it comes to sauces and dressings … some are so laden with SUGAR that they will sabotage all weight loss efforts.
Try and go as natural as possible.
Olive oil, vinegar, rock salt and pepper with a dash of mustard is a great dressing. Experiment.
Rice Cakes, Dried Fruit (in moderation), Turkey Jerky, Nuts.
And there you have it! Play with combinations of the above.
And how about rules you ask? There are no rules, just guidelines and here they are.
Guidelines to healthy, natural eating
- Eat 3 meals a day and a snack mid-morning and mid afternoon to keep your sugar levels in check and to prevent you bingeing later on.
- Be sensible with your food portions.
- Be mindful when you’re eating.
- Eat slowly so you can savor your food, and so your body has a chance to tell you when it’s full.
- Add herbs and spices to your meals to give them energy.
- Eat only what’s natural.
My philosophy for healthy eating and losing weight is pretty simple … “If God didn’t make it – don’t eat it.”
I promise you, you will see the pounds fall off remarkably if you just follow these guidelines.
Get rid of all the junk food and just try this out … your body will thank you.
