Are you sick and tired of reaching for magazines that have headlines revealing a revolutionary new way to lose weight only to find out that they’re promoting another range of magic pills, potions, lotions and pixie dust that have secret ingredients sourced from ancient mystics deep in the Amazon jungle,  GUARANTEED TO DROP 15 POUNDS IN 7 DAYS!

Chunky arms that flap in the wind.

And I don’t even have the guts to show you my chunky thighs and butt that embody the strength and circumference of an oak tree!

11 weeks ago I got really mad … because yet another weight loss company was being shoved in my face as the revolutionary new way to finally lose weight and keep it off forever. And I had suffered drastic consequences at the hands of a similar weight loss company in the past.

I got so mad … that I said, “NEVER AGAIN!”

And I set out on a journey to prove that I could lose weight WITHOUT DIETING, WITHOUT TAKING MAGIC PILLS, POTIONS, LOTIONS AND PIXIE DUST.

I have a dream that there will come a time, when millions of women around the world will release themselves from the shackles of the multi-billion dollar diet industry, and empower themselves to get in the best shape of their lives, under their own steam and their own motivation.

Imagine yourself finally free of being addicted to headlines that promise so much and yet deliver so little.

Imagine yourself walking tall, strong and proud because you know you’ve finally found the secret to losing weight, and it was inside you all along. You just needed the key to unlock it.

Imagine yourself free to enjoy the life you’ve always dreamed of, on your terms, forever more.

Just imagine that.

I wonder how different your world would look if you just had the secret of how to do thisall on your own.

Let Me Tell You A Quick Story

my story … I started dieting at the age of 10 by swallowing a bottle of Apple Shampoo. Someone told me I could lose weight fast. All I did was lose my dinner, breakfast and lunch – nothing more!

I dieted all through my teens; the brown bread diet, the yogurt diet, the cabbage soup diet. You name it, I tried it.

By the time I was in my 20’s I’d moved on to paid diet programs. I tried Herbablife, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig and Gloria Marshall and a whole heap more.

My angst at never being able to lose weight lead me into a decade long dangerous dance with bulimia. I truly believed I had found a magical way to lose weight. My 20’s were the most miserable years of my life. Pretending to be happy when I was dying inside, weighing in at over 200lbs. Can you relate?

In my 30’s I started to educate myself on health, nutrition and exercise … but this decade was filled with parties … so knowledge without action is nothing but a whole lot of useless information really. If you’re not using it … really it’s just useless to you.

So here I am in my 40’s … on a mission to kick this insidious diet industry right where it hurts and get YOU motivated to lose weight and get YOU in the best shape of your life by teaching you the tricks of the trade that the diet industry doesn’t want you to know about.

So if you seriously want to lose weight and keep it off forever … just leave me a comment underneath saying …YES I AM READY TO LOSE WEIGHT AND KEEP IT OFF FOREVER … go ahead … just write this in the comments below and LET’S START A MOVEMENT!

I’m getting ready to reveal my secrets and take you all on a beautiful journey … a journey back to who you always wanted to be … who you’ve always been … I’m ready to take you back to YOU!

You ready? Just type, “I’M READY!” GO ON  … it’ll make You Feel Good : = )

It’s the first step for you to lose weight and keep it off forever … Just type, “I’M READY!” And type it like YOU MEAN IT.

Motivation To Lose Weight | Why Bother With Affirmations? | Day 76 of P90X 90 Day Challenge

Your motivation to lose weight is nothing without the power of affirmations.

I know, they seem like such a drag to do don’t they? You wonder if there really is any point to it and you feel silly writing down stuff that you want, in the present tense, as if it’s real.

But let me tell you something, if you seriously want to get in the best shape of your life, doing your affirmations daily is as equally important as the exercises you do and the foods you choose to eat.

You may recall that I set myself a ridiculous affirmation of looking like Lara Croft. I put her on my fridge, and every day I repeated this affirmation in my journal: “I look like Lara Croft from Tomb Raider.”

Yes, I’ll admit in the beginning I felt silly. And about 2 weeks ago I felt quite defeated thinking there is no way I will ever get close to looking like Lara Croft.

And then today my husband told me he wanted to take a photo of me because he could see something I couldn’t …

… my eyes see a “fat me” … the camera sees something else …

motivation to lose weightMy motivation to lose weight was to look like my idol – how am I doing so far?

And here’s something else that I’ve learned and another reason why even P90X has it’s flaws.

Because I set myself a deadline of 90 days to get to my goal, when it looked like I might not get there, I felt defeated and every day was starting to become a bit of a slog.

My motivation to lose weight was waning because a part of me didn’t believe it was going to happen.

Which is why I’m still so adamant that you don’t need a structured diet and exercise regimen to get in the best shape of your life.

Because we’re talking about a health and wellness plan FOR LIFE … not for a wedding, or a reunion, or a beach holiday in Tahiti … we’re talking FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!

If there is no end day in sight, you can’t set yourself up for failure can you?

However, if you are consistently eating healthy, nutritious and delicious foods and regularly doing an exercise you love, you’re going to get in the best shape of your life – I GUARANTEE IT!

This was me on Day 10

motivation to lose weightThere’s no way I could have shown you my bare belly back in the beginning. Way too far out of my comfort zone …

I look back now and I remember how I felt back then … the daunting journey ahead.

If it wasn’t for my affirmations I KNOW without a doubt, I wouldn’t be where I am right now.

You MUST write down what it is that you want.

You have to bring your wants and desires to life. They will energize you when you’re feeling down, and kick your butt out the door when you just don’t quite feel like it …

Your motivation to lose weight will be reinforced daily by your affirmations.

But make sure you write them correctly … you’ve got to be focusing on the right things. They must be written in a positive way, as if they are real right now.

For Example:

Correct Way: I eat healthy, nutritious and delicious foods daily.

Incorrect Way: I don’t eat chocolate (I don’t know about you, but I read that and all I want to do is eat chocolate)

As your attention goes – so you go!

And on that note I have to run and do some Kickboxing. Still got personal cr@p going on in my life that needs to get beaten to a pulp.

Please note: I am not advocating personal dramas as a way to motivate yourself to go exercise. I am merely sugggesting that if you are struggling with a personal dilemma, let it serve to motivate you, not demotivate you. Your motivation to lose weight needs to be stronger than the dramas in your life.

Catch you tomorrow!

Motivation To Lose Weight | 5 Ways To Avoid Emotional Eating | Days 73-75 of P90X 90 Day Challenge

Emotional eating ruined my life for the good part of 30 years. You could say I’m an expert at the triggers.

emotional eatingIf I got picked on at school I recall going home and fixing myself a big bowl of WeetBix, drowning it in full cream milk and then frosting it with a thick layer of white sugar … for me that was heaven.

But I didn’t stop there. I was just revving up. That would then be followed by 4 slices of white bread, slathered with a thick layer of butter, topped off with delicious creamy honey.

I’ll never forget the sensation of the crunchy sugar on my WeetBix and the creamy honey on my bread just seemingly melt all my pain away. It was the ultimate elixer.

The only problem with this “sugar fix” however, is that it just magnified my weight problems exponentially.

It took me 30 years to stop emotional eating … please don’t let it take you that long.

I’ve worked out 5 ways to avoid emotional eating … please take them to heart. They work!

 1) Get Busy!

Let’s get really honest here for a minute … emotional eating normally happens when you have too much time on your hands, right? Maybe you’re sitting on the couch at night with 5 hours ahead of you … you’re feeling a bit lonely, or sad, or frustrated or … just plain bored!

So what happens?

If emotional eating is part of your destructive pattern, your mind is going to wander to the pantry or the fridge isn’t it?

So get busy!

“With what?” you say?

With anything … a class, an activity, a group … anything …

For me, I am so busy right now with my business and this project I’ve got brewing that I don’t even have time to think about emotional eating. I don’t even know when I could fit that in. My schedule is that packed.

You may have noticed that I didn’t even have time to blog for the past few days … I’ve been that busy with this project that I’ll be announcing at the end of 90 days.

Get ready for it … I’m going to change the way you lose weight forever!

If you’ve been following me for the past 75 days, you know it’s been a bit of a journey … but I’ve learned valuable lessons and I’ll be passing them all onto you!

2) Get rid of all the junk!

Again, let’s get really serious here for a minute. I told you in the beginning, if you really want to lose weight, you’ve got to get rid of the junk.

And if you’re an emotional eater, you really MUST get rid of the junk.

Because when those emotions hit you, you need to know that there is nothing in the house for you to satisfy that pang. It forces you to find another way to deal with it. Got it???

And unless you’re bulimic like I was, there is little chance you’re going to jump in your car at midnight just to get your binge on.

And if you are bulimic, then reach out to me via my personal email … we need to talk!

3) Really listen to your body

This is why I recommend you take up Yoga.

Yoga gets you back in tune with your body and rebuilds that mind/body connection. When you love yourself, and your body, there’s no way that you would intentionally harm yourself. Which is what you’re doing when you succumb to emotional eating.

And if you don’t really understand what emotional eating is … it’s eating outside of your normal eating routine … when you’re not really hungry.

If you’re eating 3 balanced meals a day, and 2 snacks, your body doesn’t need any more food. It’s your emotions that crave food outside of these times.

4) Identify areas of stress

Many times emotional eating is triggered by stress.

Personally, right now I’m very stressed. I have conflicts going on in my personal life which are driving me to distraction … but they are not driving me to the pantry.

Identify the stresses in your life, acknowledge them, but do not give in to them. Find a way to manage them.

Kickboxing is an awesome way to beat stress! Get to a punching bag and just whack the sh!t out of it.

Picture the person or ‘thing’ that is getting you stressed right on the front of that punching bag and just go for it! That’s what I do sometimes! And it feels GREAT!!!

5) Don’t be an island

Don’t shut yourself off from the rest of the world. There are people around you who love you. Reach out to them when you’re down and let them in.

That was my biggest mistake when I was really suffering my eating disorders. I pretended that I was “so happy.”  To admit that I was miserable would have been to have admitted a weakness on my part. And for me, that just wasn’t OK.

So I pretended to be so happy and vivacious for decades, when on the inside I was dying of pain and shame.

So reach out. There are people out there who care!

***************************************************************

Stay tuned my friends … something really exciting is on the way … if you’ve been yo-yo dieting for years, if you’ve tried every diet and failed … if you’ve bought every fitness gadget out there only to fail again … I PROMISE YOU … I’ve found a way for you to lose weight and keep it off forever … and there will be no pills, no potions and no magic involved!

Take care … and again … sorry for not getting a post out each day … things are ramping up and I’m busting my butt to get this to you …

Why?

Because I don’t want you suckered by the diet industry any longer. I want to empower you to take back control of your battle against the bulge, own it and work it. You can do this by never dieting again … I promise you … it’s easier than you think.

The diet industry just wants you to believe it’s tough and complicated because they want you powerless. They want you to depend on them to come out with the next revolutionary diet product that “really will work this time.”

I know diets don’t work.

I am living proof diets don’t work.

Stick with me … only 15 days to go …

Motivation To Lose Weight | 5 Foods To Avoid Like The Plague | Day 72 of P90X 90 Day Challenge

You know how I feel about what types of foods you should be eating … all natural, or as natural as possible.

Last night I was watching a documentary about the evils of sugar.

I know I’ve been saying NO SUGAR for a long time, but by the end of the documentary I felt sick to my stomach on the subject. So much so that even the idea of eating sugar was about as revolting as eating Mountain Oysters. If you’re not too sure what they are, you might want to Google it. Too revolting for words.

Anyhoo … just thought I’d whip together a quick list of 5 foods to avoid if you want to get in the best shape of your life and why.

Fried Food

There’s nothing good happening here.

Fried foods are soaked in trans fats which are a killer for your waist line and your health. Trans fats are unnatural and increase the risk of coronary heart disease.

Just don’t go there! Try baking your foods instead. Always look for a healthier option.

Soda and Sugar

Sugar is a 21st Century POISON.

Food manufacturers know if they put it in your food you’ll love it and therefore buy more of it.

Look at your labels. Many labels that say “Fat-Free” are soaked in sugar to make it taste good. Clever food manufacturers simply took the fat out and replaced it with sugar!!!

That’s why when the “low fat” diet craze took off, people got fatter and fatter. Because they had to pump all their tasteless fat free foods with sugar.

And let’s talk about soda.5 foods to avoid

One 12oz can of soda, contains 39grams of sugar!!! Get out the kitchen scales and pour 39grams of sugar. That’s an obscene amount of sugar.

Sugar is responsible for obesity, diabetes and a whole host of other related diseases.

If the only thing you did was to cut sugar out of your diet entirely, I promise you that you would lose weight … without ever doing anything else. Just cut out the sugar!

Artificial Sweeteners

They’re artificial. That’s a clue in and of itself that there’s something wrong here.

There are even some reports that suggest artificial sweeteners can actually make you GAIN WEIGHT instead of lose weight. That’s no fun.

Instead, use Stevia, Agave Nectar or Honey. The really neat thing about using any of these three sweeteners is that you’ll never have sugar cravings again.

White Bread

Anything that white has to be bad for you … it’s so highly processed that there’s no nutritional value left in it. And most white breads are high in sugar to make them taste good.

The only breads I recommend are Whole Grain breads because they’re full of fiber and goodness.

Margarine

Artificial anything is not good. Margarine became popular as an alternative to butter but in fact, being that so many margarines are high in trans fats you have the same health risks as eating fried foods.

Try and find an olive oil spread and for cooking use olive oil or coconut oil.

If you must use butter, use it sparingly.

And there you have it, my list of 5 foods to avoid like the plague.

I’ve got to run … I’m cooking up something really exciting which I’ll be revealing at the end of my 90 day challenge. I can’t believe I only have 18 days to go. I’ve learned so much … and I’ve got some pretty inspirational stuff to share with you all.

Keep your eyes peeled to my posts.

What I announce at the end of my 90 days will knock your socks off … get ready to lose weight like you’ve never lost before … with a twist!

Catch you tomorrow!

Motivation To Lose Weight | Healthy Foods to Lose Weight Fast | Day 71 of 90 Day Challenge

Motivation to lose weight means so many different things to so many different people.

Our motivation to lose weight comes down to a compelling reason that stimulates or inspires us to move towards our goals.

So have you found your motivation to lose weight yet? Your compelling reason that will keep you motivated through your ups and downs, through rain and shine?

To be utterly frank with you I’m pissed off with life right now … and it’s raining outside. How motivated do you think I am to exercise right now? About as motivated as a slug in summer.

But what keeps me going? My writing. My blog posts.motivation to lose weight

My blog keeps me honest and holds me accountable. And for me, that’s what it took to get this far. So many times I didn’t have the motivation I needed to keep going. And yet the thought of admitting failure in my blog kept me going. It’s been my source of strength.

It is my deepest desire that my blog will inspire others to do the same.

If you’re reading this right now and you’re desperate to find your own motivation to lose weight, perhaps you’ll find it by doing as I have done … by throwing down the gauntlet to the diet industry and saying, “Heck no! Not again. This time I’m doing it MY way!”

I’ve learned some secrets along the way … most of them you’ll find in these blog posts.

But here’s the one that I keep getting emails on most of all … what are the healthy foods I can eat to lose weight fastwell here they are:

Proteins

Chicken, Turkey, Fish, Salmon, Tuna, Pork, Tofu, Egg Whites, Red Meat (sparingly).

How much? As you know, I’m not a fan of weighing anything. Look at the size of the back of your hand and that should give you an indication of how much.

Vegetables

Anything goes … the best veges that will help get rid of belly fat are cruciferous vegetables such as Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussel Sprouts, Kale, Bok Choy, Cabbage, Collard Greens, Rutabaga, Arugula (Rocket), Watercress, Radishes & Wasabi.

Be sensible with the starchy ones like potato, pumpkin, butternut squash etc. As delicious as they are they are not the most conducive vegetables for losing weight. Just keep that in mind.

Fruits

Anything goes … but in moderation.

Keep in mind the high sugar count in fruit. If you’re trying to lose weight I would recommend keeping it down to around 1-2 serves a day maximum!

Sugar is not your friend. Even when it’s in one of God’s most delicious creations. But anything in moderation is fine.

Carbs / Grains / Legumes

Oatmeal, Cous Cous, Brown Rice, Lentils, Hummus, Quinoa, Beans, Whole Grain Cereal, Whole Grain Bread, Whole Grain Pita Bread.

How much? Again, I’m not into measuring but I would say 1 cup of any of the above and when it comes to bread I would say 2 slices is acceptable.

Dairy

Cheese: Feta, Goat, Skim Milk Mozzarella, Lo-fat Cottage and Parmesan.

Milk: Skim, Soy and Rice.

Yogurt: Low Fat Natural with Acidophilus. motivation to lose weight

This for me is one of my secret weapons that’s helping me get rid of belly fat. When do you most often get the munchies? After dinner right? Next time you get the munchies I want you to try this.

1 cup of Low Fat Yogurt

1 tablespoon of liquid honey drizzled on top

1 handful of chopped walnuts (any nuts really but I prefer walnuts in this mix)

This is to die for!

There is just enough sweetness in the honey to kick all your sugar cravings to the curb and the crunchy nuts make you feel like you’re doing something really naughty – but you’re not! Sometimes I can’t wait to get through dinner just to get to my ‘treat.’

You’ll feel naughty, but you’re actually doing something really good for yourself. Try it and see. This is how I got rid of my sugar cravings. And without sugar cravings you have a far better chance of losing weight. Don’t you agree?

Fats

Oil: Olive, Flaxseed, Coconut.

Avocado & Olives.

Again, allow common sense to prevail

Condiments / Sauces / Spreads

Mustard, Fat Free Dressings, all Vinegar (Balsamic is delicious with Olive Oil), Honey, Peanut Butter and pure Fruit Jams with no added sugar.

PLEASE NOTE: Check all labels when it comes to sauces and dressings … some are so laden with SUGAR that they will sabotage all weight loss efforts.

Try and go as natural as possible.

Olive oil, vinegar, rock salt and pepper with a dash of mustard is a great dressing. Experiment.

Snacks

Rice Cakes, Dried Fruit (in moderation), Turkey Jerky, Nuts.

And there you have it! Play with combinations of the above.

And how about rules you ask? There are no rules, just guidelines and here they are.

Guidelines to healthy, natural eating

  • Eat 3 meals a day and a snack mid-morning and mid afternoon to keep your sugar levels in check and to prevent you bingeing later on.
  • Be sensible with your food portions.
  • Be mindful when you’re eating.
  • Eat slowly so you can savor your food, and so your body has a chance to tell you when it’s full.
  • Add herbs and spices to your meals to give them energy.
  • Eat only what’s natural.

My philosophy for healthy eating and losing weight is pretty simple … “If God didn’t make it – don’t eat it.”

I promise you, you will see the pounds fall off remarkably if you just follow these guidelines.

Get rid of all the junk food and just try this outyour body will thank you.

Your motivation to lose weight comes from you finding a reason that is compelling enough to inspire you daily to move towards your goal of losing weight and keeping it off forever.

You can do this!

Look deep and I promise you, your motivation to lose weight is within you … check this post to see how I found mine.

Motivation To Lose Weight | Rest and Reflection | Day 70 of P90X 90 Day Challenge

My motivation to lose weight was not at it’s peak today. My eating was fine all day, but something in me just wasn’t quite right.

I have some personal things going on my life which are causing me great sadness. It’s nothing I can solve. All I can do is pray that time will heal all. In the meantime, this sadness weighs heavily on me.

The last thing I wanted to do today was exercise. But I had to as part of my personal commitment to my P90X 90 Day Challenge (I know today is supposed to be a rest day … but I had to switch things around earlier in the week).

I procrastinated as much as I could; made extra phone calls, checked emails that didn’t need checking, tidied the house, did the washing … but at the end of the day, I knew I still had to exercise.

Have you ever had days like that? When you just don’t want to exercise?

By 6:30pm I couldn’t put it off any longer and I started Kenpo which is a boxing workout. The first part is stretching and then you get into punching and kicking!motivation to lose weight

I have to tell you, half way through I was pumped! I was loving it! The endorphins were raging and I felt awesome! And I had another revelation:

Sometimes, you’ve just got to stop analyzing everything and “Just Do It!”

And I believe this is when you’re going to get one of your major breakthroughs. This is when you will truly appreciate what exercise can do for you. It’s not just about burning fat and getting fit, it’s about making you feel good!

When you exercise you can get what is called “Runner’s High.” This is when you really push yourself and the rush of endorphins has the effect of opiates, making you feel good and giving you a feeling of well-being. This is so incredible. To be able to make that connection between exercise and feeling good.

I know exercise seems like such a chore, but it’s not. It is a mood enhancer.

This is why I am adamant that you find an exercise you enjoy and look forward to. It will make it so much easier when you’re just “not in the mood.”

So that was my revelation … now it’s time for reflection.

I’ve just committed to 10 weeks of P90X and eating only natural foods, exercising 6 days per week, not dieting because I believe diets don’t work, not weighing myself because I don’t think that’s useful either, and not measuring myself or my food.

And here’s what I notice:

  • Craving carbs is a thing of the past
  • Craving sugar is a thing of the past
  • Healthy foods make me happy
  • Incorporating yoga for weight loss works
  • The best time to exercise, for me is in the early evening
  • And it’s true that there are foods that are seriously helping me get rid of belly fat

I feel like a totally different person. My body is capable of things it simply couldn’t conceive of 10 weeks ago. I feel “alive.”

I have ripped shoulders, sculpted definition in the muscles in my back and my core is off the hook! My jeans are loose by about 3 inches in the waist. It’s happening … it’s really happening and I still have 3 weeks to go …

I look forward to the day when I can show you what’s possible when you don’t diet. I really believe in this and I want nothing more than to share everything I’ve learned over the course of this journey with you.

If you are sick and tired of every new diet gimmick that hits the market place, and you’re wondering if “this is the one” that’s finally going to help you lose weight, I promise you, if you follow my ideas you will learn how to lose weight forever by never dieting again.

The only job you need to do right now is find your motivation to lose weight and I’ll show you how to do the rest. I promise you, it’s so simple!

Motivation To Lose Weight | I’m Starting To See The Light | Days 66-69 of P90X 90 Day Challenge

motivation to lose weightI had an epiphany today!

The past 3 days have been absolutely crazy for me. I’ve been on calls all day long, sitting in on re-launch meetings of a company I work with and I’ve been so BUSY that I haven’t had time to blog.

Firstly, my apologies for that as I did promise to blog daily … however I’ve made a breakthrough that I know will be so valuable to you.

Let me share with you how this epiphany evolved.

On Day 66 I got up at 5:00am and went through my usual rituals.

I made a cup of coffee, got Matilda (my Mac) booted up for the day, then I settled into my affirmations. Yes, I’m still writing out, “I look like Lara Croft from Tomb Raider.”  I feel a bit silly about that one as I have only 21 days to go and I’m a long way from looking Lara Croft. However, I’m a long way from where I started too : )

I wrote my blog for the day which normally takes me to about 9:00am. At that stage I make my breakfast which for this month is yummy oatmeal.

Then I got stuck into my re-launch projects.

By 4:30pm a curious thing had happened. I looked at the clock and thought, “Oh sh!t, I forgot to eat!” Now the thing is I schedule my exercise for 5:00pm so this posed a dilemma.

I had a quick snack of rice crackers and then failed miserably at 5:00pm to do my workout which was ‘Back and Biceps.’ FUHGEDDABOUDIT!!!!!! It was a wipeout.

So I vowed not to do that again.

So Day 67 comes around and I get up at 5:00am and repeat my rituals.

I was going about my business and it was a super busy day that day, and I got a text around 4:00pm from my husband and I looked up at the clock and go, “Oh no! I’ve done it again!” I forgot to eat!

That day I was lucky as it was Yoga. I made my way through it.

Again, I say this is never happening again.

So what happens on Day 68? You guessed it … by mid afternoon I was so caught up in all I was doing, I forgot to eat again.

So what is my epiphany?

Now I am in no way at all promoting skipping meals as a way to lose weight. In fact that’s the worst thing you can do because it causes problems with your blood sugar levels and it makes it more likely that you’re going to snack and do silly things at night.

Like eat spoonfuls of Nutella straight out of the jar! Yes I am guilty. The Nutella Monster finally got me! After 60+ days, I succumbed. Do I feel guilty? Nope. I’ve given that game up long ago.

Back in the saddle is my motto now. No guilt, no shame … just get back to business.

So here’s the revelation …  I’ve been so busy with my business, that I haven’t had time to think about food. It hasn’t been my sole focus.

When you’re dieting, that tends to be where 100% of your focus goes, right? I believe this is part of the problem. We’re focusing on sticking to something and for some of us, this is not bringing us the results we want.

If we have too much time on our hands, our minds tend to wander to our ‘program.’ And from my personal experience, when I’ve been on a diet and I’ve had too much free time, sometimes I’ve driven myself nuts with a tug of war of wanting to stick to my diet and wanting to break my diet.

So here’s the thing. Do you think if we were all motivated by something apart from dieting, but had healthy eating and exercise as a PART of our lives, instead of it being the WHOLE of our lives, that we might be more successful at adopting a new lifestyle?

And what if that ‘something’ was about making life better for everyone in your family and not just you? Do you think you would be motivated to make a change in your life if you knew it meant you could lose weight and make a difference in the lives of those you love?

Could this in turn be the motivation to lose weight you’ve been looking for?

I think this just might be the answer.

I have something brewing … I really believe I’m onto something here … stay posted. It’s going to change the way you lose weight forever … I just know it!

I’m off to exercise, and yes, I remembered to eat today : )

My Motivation To Lose Weight | How Did I Find It? | Day 65 of 90 Day Challenge

Motivation to lose weight can be quite bewildering. One day you’ve got it, and the next day it’s dwindling. So how do you find a motivation to lose weight that’s invincible?

For me, finding my motivation to lose weight was about making a point. For some reason, doing it for myself wasn’t motivation enough. I’d tried to lose weight before, unsuccessfully each time. And this year I got angry.

This year I said enough is enough. I got so sick and tired of the multi billion dollar diet industry taking advantage of us and sucking us into their latest craze. It’s just not OK! They’re getting rich and we’re staying fat!

We’re vulnerable. They know this. They know that if they package their pills, shakes, bands or whatever it is in such a way that makes it sounds “NEW” and “REVOLUTIONARY” with “SECRET INGREDIENTS” we’re going to fall for it, hook line and sinker.

Heck, last night I nearly fell for some new pills that have ancient ingredients from Siberia, Indonesia and the Amazon that the  indigenous people use for strength, stamina and appetite suppressant on long marches. Come on people! Really??? It’s all too much.

motivation to lose weightThere are no secret ingredients. I promise you. It’s all hocus pocus marketing designed to get you to open your wallet and feed your hard earned money into the ravenously hungry monster that is the multi-billion dollar diet industry.

Don’t feed it any more. I promise you, it doesn’t deserve your contribution.

Don’t let it prey on your vulnerability any longer.

Take charge of your situation and ask yourself honestly, what would it take for you to find your motivation to lose weight?

What would motivate you to get up every day and exercise, to eat right, no matter what?

  • Would you do it for your kids so you can live a healthier life with them?
  • Would you do it for someone you love so you can enjoy a fuller life with them?
  • Would you do it to find love if you don’t have love already?
  • Would you do it to change your life so that you could live the life you dream of?
  • Would you do it for a better job?

What would get you so pumped up that no matter what got in your way, you’d still want to stay on the path?

That’s what you have to ask yourself.

For me, my motivation to lose weight was all about finally being honest about my weight and admitting that I’m not OK with how I look, I’m not OK with the opportunities I pass up because of it and I’m not OK with the way I stand in the shadows and watch everyone else live life with carefree abandon. And most of all, I’m not OK with the diet industry conning me with it’s crazy shakes and pills!

My motivation to lose weight is reinforced with a bold mission to prove once and for all that DIETS DON’T WORK and that we can do this on our own! It doesn’t take magic. It just takes conviction.

I know you don’t have it right now, but if you did have your motivation to lose weight all sorted out, what would it look like?

Visualise how you would be if you had your motivation to lose weight firmly rooted in your psyche.

How would you walk and talk and hold yourself? Would you walk a little taller today? Maybe a little bolder? Would you hold your head a little higher?

My friends, I have to tell you this. You have everything you need, inside of you right now to get this thing done. I promise you. All you need to do is identify the one thing that gets you all fired up, and hold onto that. Because the moment when you don’t feel like doing what needs to be done, that’s when you have to be able to fall back on something bigger and stronger than you.

Every time I don’t feel like exercising, I think how I’m going to feel when I admit that in my blog.

Every time I feel like eating chocolate, or drinking wine, I think how I’m going to feel admitting that I broke down.

And it’s knowing that I’m being held accountable that keeps me on track. This blog is my motivation to lose weight. The discoveries I am making about myself and my journey are my motivation to lose weight. The fact that I might even be able to help others with this blog is my  motivation to lose weight. You see where I’m going here?

I want you to dig deep and ask yourself these TWO very important questions:

  1. What’s holding you back? and
  2. What would you do if you actually believed you could do it this time?

I need you to watch this again …

My Motivation To Lose Weight | Rest and Reflection – How Happy Are You? | Days 61-63 of 90 Day Challenge

Oops – you may have noticed I haven’t posted anything on my “My Motivation To Lose Weight” blog for a few days.

motivation to lose weightWe went to visit my parents who live out in the country and they have absolutely no cell phone coverage or internet access and we were out there for a few days.

What bliss. As much as I love being ‘connected’ I also adore being forced to ‘disconnect.’ It’s so peaceful and so far away from the ‘real world’ that it makes it very easy to reflect.

My Mum is so adorable and had checked with my husband before our arrival about my dietary requirements. She had her menu all planned out perfectly and she was so considerate. Chicken wrapped in Parma Ham with Broccoli for me and Basmati Rice for them. It was delicious.

Over the course of dinner the subject of my blog came up and we started talking about my findings. They know this is the first time I have ever stuck to anything for longer than 2 weeks (I’ve just hit 2 months – hard to believe really) so naturally they’re quite curious and ever so supportive.

I began by saying that I believed the real reason we don’t lose weight on diets is because we’ve never found a motivation to lose weight that was strong enough and a determination to carry it through. They were quite impressed that I went through an entire night of them enjoying Champagne, Wine and Irish Coffees without even being slightly tempted. I winked at Dad and said, “I’m a stubborn b!tch when I want to be.”

And then the subject of weight loss did a 180 and Mum and Dad started talking about their own experiences.

At one point Mum for some inexplicable reason started to gain weight even though she hadn’t changed her diet one iota. The only suggestion I could make was to cut out the 5 teaspoons of sugar she was having a day in her cups of tea. She tried that modification and within 3 months she was back to where she was comfortable.

But did she rely on any massive amount of motivation to lose weight to do it? Not really … she just didn’t want to put on weight so she cut back on the one thing she could.

And then the topic moved to Dad who has been trim and athletic his whole life.

Over Christmas we all tend to over-indulge (as you do!) and by the end of the first week in January he is just sick of the sight of food. If he feels his belt getting a little tight does he go on a diet? No – he just goes fencing! And that fixes it pretty quick.

So that evening when everyone had gone to bed I started to ponder this. Neither of them needed a massive amount of motivation to lose weight. They just made a decision, and did it. So what’s the difference between them and us?

And then BAM!!! It hit me! They don’t use food for comfort. They simply use food for fuel.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been the “Queen of Comfort Eating” for so long. Pain and misery seemed to dissolve with a mouthful of cookies, ice cream and chocolate. I recall episodes of being lost in delirium as sugary sweetness would work it’s magic like a drug and numb all my pain.

But then what was I left with afterwards? I still had the pain, I still felt miserable and now I could add GUILT to my list of woes. What a vicious, nasty cycle.

So back to my parents. I look at them and they are so blissfully happy. After decades of marriage you’d think they were still on their honeymoon!

So for those of us who struggle with losing weight, I believe there might be more to it than just finding your motivation to lose weight. I think we might need to identify what’s making us unhappy and address that first.

So if you’re struggling to find your motivation to lose weight, and if you were to be totally honest with yourself, is there something else holding you back?

How happy are you, really?

P.S. This blog is about proving once and for all that diets don’t work.

If you want to see some of the crazy diets I’ve tried, check out my first post.

I have 27 days left of my personal 90 day challenge and at the end of it I hope to have proven once and for all that diets don’t work, that there is a way to lose weight that does not rely on calorie counting or ridiculous diet restrictions, and that weighing and measuring yourself is not conducive to healthy weight loss.

And if I can do it, ANYONE can do it : )

My Motivation To Lose Weight | Pepsi, Coke and Cancer | Day 60 of 90 Day Challenge

coke and cancerPepsi, Coke and Cancer … what on earth does that have to do with my blog? Well, one of the purposes of my blog is to bring you information that you can use to help you lose weight, keep it off forever and live a healthy life.

This post falls into the category of ‘live a healthier life.’

If you’re following my philosophy of “If God didn’t make it don’t eat it,” I know you know, that that philosophy also extends to “If God didn’t make it don’t DRINK it” as well. And as far as I know, there is no natural spring out there pumping out liquid Coke and Pepsi.

Now, I’m not an alarmist by any measure, but this headline caught my attention:

“Coke, Pepsi to drop level of ‘cancer’ chemical”

WASHINGTON (AFP) – “Coca-Cola and Pepsi said Friday they have lowered levels of a chemical in caramel coloring to comply with a California law, but insisted the drinks pose no health risks and recipes will not change.

The move allows the companies to avoid having to label products with a cancer warning due to what the health-conscious west coast state has ruled are high levels of 4-methylimidazole, shown to cause cancer in lab rodents.”

Pepsi, Coke and Cancer AND 4-MEI

I find this disturbing. Especially as they’re only dropping the level of 4-MEI in California and will gradually do the same all over the world.

No doubt you’ve all heard the urban myths that if you leave a tooth or a nail in a glass of Coke it’ll dissolve overnight. Is that true? I don’t know. I’ve never tried it.coke and cancer

But what I do know is the reason Coke and cancer keep getting thrown around in the same sentence is that the active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. It has a pH level of 2.8.

The concentrate in Coke is so corrosive that the commercial trucks carrying it have to display the Hazardous Material sign used to indicate they’re carrying highly corrosive materials.

I wrote a post a while back about the dangers of drinking diet soda.

“Diet soda is not only addictive, but just one diet soda can kill the neurons in your brain within six to eight hours. These chemicals literally “excite” the nuerons to death, which is why they call them “excitotoxins.” Their regular consumption can cause brain damage and cancer, as aspartame increases your cancer risk.” ~ Dr Russell Blaylock in Suzanne Somers, “Breakthrough. Eight Steps to Wellness”

So this should give you enough reason to get rid of all soda from your diet. If you like drinking fizzy drinks, then move to Mineral Water. The jury is still out about the health benefits, but they certainly do not lead to poor health. So if you must drink bubbles, make them mineral bubbles!

Personally my favorite is St Pellegrino. It’s been bottled at the source in St Pellegrino Terme since 1395 and it is said that Leonardo da Vinci visited the town in 1509 to sample the town’s miraculous water and later wrote a paper on the subject. That’s good enough for me.

In Conclusion

If you have not done so already, eliminate all soda from your diet. Do Coke and cancer belong in the same sentence? I don’t know … as I’ve always maintained, I’m not nutritionist, or a dietician and I don’t have any degrees in chemistry. All I have now is a Degree in Common Sense.
