Your motivation to lose weight needs to have some back bone!
Guess what? Life is always going to get in the way. If it doesn’t you might want to check your pulse!
This is how I’ve always failed to lose weight on stupid diets in the past.
You see, I love to drink and I love to eat and I love to have great times. But I felt that the only way I could enjoy the good times was to drink alcohol and eat poor food choices. So when I was on a stupid diet I would literally cancel my life. I wouldn’t accept dinner dates, wouldn’t go out for drinks with the girls … I would just stay home and focus on my stupid diet. Focus, focus, focus.
This is the only time when I’m going to say something that sounds absolutely absurd when it comes to getting in the best shape of your life. Don’t ever focus on losing weight ever again. Focus instead on gaining a healthy, strong sexy body!
So when my husband wanted to whisk me away for a romantic getaway my previous reaction would have been less than favorable. I would have seen this as an interruption to my diet plan. I would have panicked about what I’m going to eat and how I’ll do my exercise.
This time around, I embraced it for what it was. A beautiful gesture of love. Romantic and exciting. I embraced the getaway and fit my 90 day challenge around my life.
It was a nostalgic destination and we were starving by the time we got there. Dinner wasn’t for another 5 hours. The only food available was High Tea featuring sandwiches, pastries, champagne, tea and coffee.
Instead of seeing hurdles, I simply asked if the sandwiches could be made with whole grain bread, no butter. Not a problem!
As much as I would have loved to soak up the atmosphere with a glass of bubbly and woof down some sweet delights, I resolved that my motivation to lose weight was to look like Lara Croft at the end of this 90 day challenge and indulging in NTY (No Thank You) foods wasn’t going to get me to my goal.
And it wasn’t that hard. My motivation to lose weight inspired me and strengthened my resolve. I felt GOOD staying strong. I felt like I’d conquered something that formerly had so much power over me. Check me out! Sweets staring me in the face and I’m savoring a smoked salmon sandwich. And loving it. Because today I’m one day closer to my goal of looking like Lara Croft at the end of my 90 day challenge.
Now, just a side note about my NTY foods. Am I saying that I will never eat sweets again? No, of course not. One serving here and there will not hurt me and it’s ridiculous to think that I should deny myself sweet pleasures in life. Could I live the rest of my life without enjoying icecream, or chocolate or Old Fashioned English Trifle soaked in Sherry? No. And I shouldn’t have to.
But for this 90 day challenge, I now know that I have the strength to say No Thank You. In the past my motivation to lose weight would waver in these moments and I would experience an extreme inner battle. This time it was easy because I’m coming at this all from a different angle.
This time around, I am CHOOSING to only eat naturally (“If God didn’t make it – don’t eat it” is my motto) and I am choosing to follow an exercise routine that I find challenging and motivating.
And in my opinion this is where diets fail us. They set us up to fail. On many diets we feel deprived or worse yet we’re so focussed on counting calories and weighing stuff that we can’t exist as a normal person in our life. Sometimes we become downright demonic in our pursuit of weight loss.
And here’s the other thing. You’ve got to stay busy! If you’re bored and have too much time on your hands your motivation to lose weight can dwindle. You have to find activities that you enjoy doing. Go dancing, paint, walk on the beach, read – just do something that gets your butt off the sofa and your mind out of the refrigerator. Enjoy what life has to offer. Expand your horizons. And if you think life is dull and boring, imagine if you will for just one minute, that you had 7 days left on this planet. How would you feel about life then? Would that change your perspective a bit? I hope so.
In the past I would put off living whilst dieting. This time around I’m living my life on my terms, and incorporating my 90 day challenge to fit in with my life, not the other way around. And it’s working.
So here’s my challenge for you today. If you’re not happy with the way you look don’t ever buy another diet book again. Follow me here, go back and read all my posts, subscribe to my RSS feeds and let’s gain healthy, strong sexy bodies together.
Here’s a few steps for you right now.
1) Go to your pantry and refrigerator right now and throw away all the garbage that keeps you from your goals.
2) Get your scales and your tape measure and throw them in the garbage too.
3) Get a pen and some paper and sit with yourself for 30 minutes (yes you can find 30 minutes for yourself) and write down all the things you DON’T do because you don’t like the way you look.
4) Then on another piece of paper write down how you will FEEL when you’re doing all of these same things.
5) NOW write this down: MY MOTIVATION TO LOSE WEIGHT IS …. (insert all the things you would love to do when you are healthy, strong and sexy).
6) Turn that list into positive affirmations in the present tense and read that list every morning before you do anything else!
I am sunbathing in a bikini in Waikiki
I am wearing a sexy LBD (little black dress) to a party and all eyes are on me
I am playing beach volleyball and I look so hot!
I look and live like a Fitness Model
I am living the life of my dreams
You need to write this in the present tense so the Universe (don’t think less of me for believing in the esoteric nature of things) can rearrange itself around your projections. What you put out you will receive. If you put out, “I’m fat and ugly and the world stinks,” well you’re going to get that affirmed for you every day. So why not put it the other way around? “I’m sexy and gorgeous and the world is fabulous!” If you’re radiating that kind of energy, I promise you … beautiful things will start to happen in your life.
If you’re looking for excellence in your health and well-being and you’re being a weak-willed ninny then take a listen to Will Smith and hear his thoughts on the subject. You’ll be jumping out of your skin with determination and commitment to your motivation to lose weight after watching this … Enjoy!
Feeling inspired now? Go grab your pen and paper and get cracking on finding YOUR motivation to lose weight.
