Motivation To Lose Weight | Why Bother With Affirmations? | Day 76 of P90X 90 Day Challenge

Your motivation to lose weight is nothing without the power of affirmations.

I know, they seem like such a drag to do don’t they? You wonder if there really is any point to it and you feel silly writing down stuff that you want, in the present tense, as if it’s real.

But let me tell you something, if you seriously want to get in the best shape of your life, doing your affirmations daily is as equally important as the exercises you do and the foods you choose to eat.

You may recall that I set myself a ridiculous affirmation of looking like Lara Croft. I put her on my fridge, and every day I repeated this affirmation in my journal: “I look like Lara Croft from Tomb Raider.”

Yes, I’ll admit in the beginning I felt silly. And about 2 weeks ago I felt quite defeated thinking there is no way I will ever get close to looking like Lara Croft.

And then today my husband told me he wanted to take a photo of me because he could see something I couldn’t …

… my eyes see a “fat me” … the camera sees something else …

And here’s something else that I’ve learned and another reason why even P90X has it’s flaws.

Because I set myself a deadline of 90 days to get to my goal, when it looked like I might not get there, I felt defeated and every day was starting to become a bit of a slog.

My motivation to lose weight was waning because a part of me didn’t believe it was going to happen.

Which is why I’m still so adamant that you don’t need a structured diet and exercise regimen to get in the best shape of your life.

Because we’re talking about a health and wellness plan FOR LIFE … not for a wedding, or a reunion, or a beach holiday in Tahiti … we’re talking FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!

If there is no end day in sight, you can’t set yourself up for failure can you?

However, if you are consistently eating healthy, nutritious and delicious foods and regularly doing an exercise you love, you’re going to get in the best shape of your life – I GUARANTEE IT!

I look back now and I remember how I felt back then … the daunting journey ahead.

If it wasn’t for my affirmations I KNOW without a doubt, I wouldn’t be where I am right now.

You MUST write down what it is that you want.

You have to bring your wants and desires to life. They will energize you when you’re feeling down, and kick your butt out the door when you just don’t quite feel like it …

Your motivation to lose weight will be reinforced daily by your affirmations.

But make sure you write them correctly … you’ve got to be focusing on the right things. They must be written in a positive way, as if they are real right now.

For Example:

Correct Way: I eat healthy, nutritious and delicious foods daily.

Incorrect Way: I don’t eat chocolate (I don’t know about you, but I read that and all I want to do is eat chocolate)

As your attention goes – so you go!

And on that note I have to run and do some Kickboxing. Still got personal cr@p going on in my life that needs to get beaten to a pulp.

Please note: I am not advocating personal dramas as a way to motivate yourself to go exercise. I am merely sugggesting that if you are struggling with a personal dilemma, let it serve to motivate you, not demotivate you. Your motivation to lose weight needs to be stronger than the dramas in your life.
