Right Angle Pose & Grab

As you may know, I didn’t start out enjoying Yoga. In fact my favorite pose was Corpse and you can read about that here. However I’m now into my third week and I’m noticing some changes.

For starters I can do things this week that I couldn’t do last week. For example, I can now do “Right Angle Pose & Grab.” When I first started P90X there was a great divide of about 10 inches. So for me, this is great progress.

Also, I’m starting to actually enjoy Yoga and I can see how you can use Yoga for weight loss. I know this is going to sound crazy but I can actually FEEL my metabolism speeding up. I feel as if a furnace is being set alight inside of me.

But aside from using Yoga for weight loss Yoga has also been shown to minimize many ailments.

Research shows that Yoga can be remedial for:

Yoga is also renowned for stimulating the immune system, improving muscle tone, flexibility, strength and stamina. It’s been known to create a sense of calm and well being.

If you’re not a Yoga convert already have I given you enough reasons to at least take a look at it?

So getting back to Yoga for weight loss. How does it work?

The theory goes that Yoga kindles a strong mind-body connection that ultimately helps you be more aware of what your body really needs.

According to an article in WebMD, “Yoga makes you more susceptible to influence for change – so if you are thinking you want to change your lifestyle, you want to change the way you think about food, you want to get over destructive eating patterns, Yoga will help give you the spiritual connection to your body that can help you make those changes … Essentially, in Yoga you learn your body is not your enemy, and the conscious awareness of the body that you gain translates into better appetite control.”

So in a nutshell – can you use Yoga for weight loss? Absolutely!

Without getting all technical, Yoga just makes you feel good! You feel as if you’re doing something really wholistic for yourself. You’re disconnecting from the fast-paced, hectic toxic world you live in for 90 mintues and you get to be at one with yourself and the universe. And as bizarre as this sounds, you start to feel a love-connection with your body. Wouldn’t that be nice?

And along the way you’ll lengthen your muscles, develop slender limbs and look totally hot!

The thing with Yoga is that you get to start to LOVE and APPRECIATE your body for the finely tuned beautiful instrument that it is. Instead of seeing flaws you start to see grace. Instead of seeing tree trunks for legs (which is all I could see 3 weeks ago) you start to see limber limbs that take you everywhere you go. Instead of seeing chicken wings that flap in the wind you start to see your arms as beautiful instruments that fetch and carry for you. And the list goes on and on … you just start to appreciate how much super intelligence went into creating the vessel that carries your soul.

So if jumping and leaping is not your style go and try Yoga for weight loss. It’ll give you the mind, body, spirit connection that will see you stay on track with your motivation to lose weight.
